Passport needed to go to Mexico?
 

There's a new law requiring a passport to get into Canada, how about Mexico? I'm going to San Diego and want to hop on down to Tijuana if I don't need a passport.

yea, as of jan 23rd you will need to have a passport for both canada and mexico. However it sounds like you will be driving into mexico which i believe is ok. I think the passport law is only if you are flying into another country, pretty sure you just need a birth certificate and a few other forms of id to walk/drive into mexico or canada. i was just in mexico city(flew obviously) and had 0 problems with out a passport.

Passport Requirements Are Changing: Air Travelers To and From U.S. Neighbors Will Soon Need Passports

Beginning January 23, 2007, all air travelers, including U.S. citizens, traveling between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda will be required to travel with a valid passport, Air NEXUS card or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document. A similar requirement for land and sea travelers will not take effect until 2008. Complete details are posted on the Department of State's Web site. If you're traveling by air to one of the areas listed above and don't have a passport, now's the time to apply.

i believe this answers you good, I pulled it off my airports homepage. you should be ok as long as you go before 2008.

Jago, what in the hell would be your reasoning for wanting to go to a scum town like TJ? It's not cheap if they think you're an American with money (you won't be able to get around that), everybody is there to rip you off, and you have no rights whatsoever. If the police feel like robbing you, then you are robbed. It's not as rare as you might think, and mexico is a shithole. Just stay in SD.

IT's not bad, are you planning on just clubbing or what? You can easily have fun down there with less then $50 bucks. Although you do know that recently... policemen in TJ were stripped of their guns so all of the policemen in TJ quit. They were ordered back to work but it's very dangerious over there right now.

Don't go to TJ. Come to Pb in San diego :)

I'm going with my girl and her cousin, they both really want to go and I don't feel comfortable letting the two of them go by themselves. I could care less about TJ.

On a side note, my DL is no good, so she has to drive across the border (which is good, cause im drunk more the half the time), but when ever I drive, they search the jeep and think I tryin to smuggle in a mexy or mexy. :S

And yes, there are no cops in tj right now, there's been to much gang/mafia violence, a bunch of turist have got shot or killed and robbed, and they think the cops have something to do with it, there testing every gun the policia turned in during there disarmament. But the fucked up part is the federal/army pigs are in control and policing the city. And from what I’ve heard, there way more fucked up!

been to Tj twice just walked over just dont bring anything back of the border unless you want to get messed with by border peps

Julio's family and my family each took seperate cars and my family(wife and daughter) made it through fine and no ?'s asked but Julizzzle had to pull over and ask them a few questions but on the back it was smooth sailing besides waiting like 1-2 hours just to get to the border in a endless traffic jam of people leaving that wonderful country. We came in to TJ at night and the city didn't look that big but damn the next morning...that ------- city is ------- huge. I don't know if I'd want to go back right now. If I remember they brought the military into the city cause alot of drug cartels and lots of violence was going on. It just matters where you go in TJ. stay relatively downtown by the markets and you'll do fine. Outside of that...can I have your car if you don't make it back? Walk around just say MS13 to everyone and do some crazy hand gestures. Oh and get a realllllllly good tan so you won't stick out so much...like roll in some mud. Go walk right along the fence cause it really make you think as the border poo poo drive around in there Bronco's and on their horses. Alot of the fence by the ocean is in such shambles and just rusted to ---- you can actually walk through it. Here was someones house like 5 feet away from the border down by the water front. I kid you not.

---- tj. if i go to mexico i head strait ot rosarito or ensenada. much cleaner( for mexican standards) dont drink the water or candy or soda or beer. bring your own liquor or beer and water. tj is just asking for trouble, thats were most of the dumb wana be cholos from la go kick it. rosarito is only about an extra 40-50minute drive and if you take the toll road "quota" is fast and safe.

i remember in TJ some old hag that was in her 50's came up to me and grabbed my sac and said shell suck it for 5 bux, faakkk i nearly punched the bitch.

i went to mexico to visite my wife grandparents, and talkn bout being a white guy with a mexican chick was funny because all those guys looked at me funny...
and i went las marchover spring break and i had to have a passport
i drunk with my father n law and da unlces and what suxd was i dont know spanish i still had fun

we drove there.. we left friday nite and got there saturday nite from dallas to san luise (SLP) where my wife is from is like bout 30hrs eeeeeeeeeeeeeik
i didnt like the drive and i cudnt smoke cigrates in the van

When you come in the road going into TJ is like between some pretty big hills and even still if you weren't looking and veered off the road.. :X I didn't see it at night when we came in but on our way downtown we headed the same way and I was like driving with my hands at 10 and 2 and had mad tunnel vision cause the ---- freaked me out.

That ---- was freaky the morning after seeing that. I wish it was dark again after driving back to TJ through that. I'm not very good with heights either. :-\ It wasn't a fun drive for me to say the least.
