Do they check for it?I had to have a car emissions checked once when I lived in area that required it and they did a visual check for the cat with a mirror and then spun it on the dyno.Never looked inside the car.worst case just remove the bulb before you go.

They don't check for the cat in WA. I doubt you would even pass without a cat. They have you pull up to the dyno or whatever and let it idle and have you hook up that thing in your cig lighter. Then they ask you get out and they rev it up to like 3k for a minute. Then they have you get back in the and let it idle for a sec. . I tested the emission with my other car and the idle goes up to like 1800 in park. I'm using a manual ECU in an auto., so I retarded the ign. timming hella :-) (only low enough so I had enough power to get there, I could lowered it more when I got. passed anyway). Taking out the bulb is a good idea, I'm def. going to do that.

they will look to make sure that your check eng. light comes on and then goes off at start up.
then they will do the sniffer test.
You can try to clear the cel and see how long it takes to come back on. I did that on my g/f car right before I went into emissions, passed emissions and two min. after I left the place the cel came back on.
