Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
and I'm pretty impressed. 260 HP with a 2.0 4-cylinder (factory rated... not to the wheels obviously) with twin scroll turbo, minimal spool time, RWD, Limited Slip Diff. Curb weight is 3,000 pounds almost exactly... which isn't bad for a convertible.
It's a lot of car for the price (like 31k after all the bells and whistles), handles like a champ. I was looking up some stats on the engine and it's a 9.2 : 1 CR, not exactly sure what the stock pressure is set at... I think around 12 psi. The only down side... it's a ------- automatic (5-speed)! I should have seen that coming knowing my parents. This is a apparently the first year they've had the option for an auto trans on the GXP... still, I'm a bit dissapointed with that decision. Warranty isn't bad either... 5 year/100k mi for the powertrain, 3 year and 36k (I think) for everything else. Just thought I'd share since I didn't even think of this car as a "performance" vehicle until I got behind the wheel... recommended for anyone looking for new cars. |
Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
My pap was supposed to buy the same car, didnt want the stick... whats the performance numbers on it?

Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP

Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
WHat a waste of money to get an auto tranny. I swear I can't drive an auotmatic I always feel out of control and I end up stabbing he brakes at stop signs looking for the clutch. And they waste gas. Try the gas milage spin on them and see if they'll exchange it before it's to late.

Mr Rogers,
Are you aware that every song you've ever done sounds like a Folgers commercial? I DO like that whole "Lady" song you did, though. |

Solstice
Saturn Sky I prefer the more angular look of the Sky. Same car otherwise.... |
Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
Nope I like the solstice over a sky. What do they cost anyway?
|
Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
Sky costs more than the solstice for some reason, styling wise I'd rather have the Sky but I'd settle for a Solstice :P

Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
not the biggest fan, but cool car. the stick models trap like 100. not bad. i also prefer the sky over the solstice. that front end on the sky makes the car

Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
I read the Car & Driver review on both the Sky and the MadzaSpeed3(they were in the same issue)...they both seem like pretty neat lil cars...both way outta my price range, but like most other cars, you'll be able to pick a used one in a few years for a reasonable price...I'm just glad to see the car companies putting out factory turbocharged vehicles once again...the pickins have been kinda slim since the late 80's...

Re: Parents bought a new Pontiac Solstice GXP
I plan on getting a Saturn Sky Redline when I get back from Iraq. Base MSRP is 29k, Dealer invoice 27k. I priced one with a few options I wanted including Turbo-back exhaust and it came out to 31k. Its a better looking car imho than the Pontiac, bcuz of the more aggressive design. Although I've heard the waiting list for the Redline is a year out.
