Re:Paint Job

they got the crappy kind for like 200 but for a paint job that makes ur car look like it came that way from the factory is like 800 to 900 even more if ya want it custom bullshit

BLUEHATCH 01-29-2004 11:11 PM

Re:Paint Job

Anywhere from 1200 to 3000 depence where you go and what kind of materials are being used. I use to work at a body shop as a body man and a painter, if you are interested i can hook your ---- up good for around $1500 with top of the line materials. Let me know...

BLUEHATCH 01-29-2004 11:14 PM

Re:Paint Job

Well 800 or 900 dollars it will look kind of like it came out of the factory but won't last long and still you wont get that mirror finsh look for that kind of money

Hmmm... I got my rex painted for about 30-40, maybe 50 bucks. Yep, primer black baby. Sexiest color on in exsistence.

BLUEHATCH

where you from?

Also what do you think of sanding down your own car, primering it up double coat, wetsanding it, and then sending it off to MAACO for a paint job??? I know MAACO is not the best but shiet I dont wanna spend 4g as a shop quoted me for my paint job...

Re:Paint Job

Hey drag i live in Kent, WA. If you want that ---- to last don't go to MAACO, they use the cheapest materials know to man- that's why their paint starts to faid in a couple of years if it doesn't fall off by then, they supouse to spray couple of coats of sealer on your car before the paint, but they don't, i know because i have a friend that use to work at MAACO and he said that they never sprayed sealer like they supouse to, that is one of the reasons why MACCO paint starts to peel off after a while.
I wouldn't recomend primering the whole car, only places where body work had beed done, if any work had been done at all. It's just not nessesary. Get some wet/dry send paper 600 grit and take your time wet sending it, then if you go to a desent shop they will seal the whole car and then spray 2-3 coats of base coat(paint) either PPG or DuPont both are GOOD types of paint and then 2-4 coats of clear there are a few good brands to use. And then after about a week you could use a good cut and buff to smoth out the clear (just make sure that the guy who's going to do it knows WTF he is doing otherwise your expensive paing job is fucked, by getting buff burns in the clear) and cuting and buffing is something you can't do even with an 800 or 900 hundred dollar MAACO pain job because bustards are spraying only one coat of clear instead of 2-4. I can give you many reasons not to go to MAACO but the choice is yours buddy. GOOD LUCK Sorry for making it long... ;)

Re:Paint Job

I kind of got the feeling they will f up my paint, but I'm just trying to reason myself about why I should spend more than $500 on my paint job because some lil ------- at the grocery store is just bound to slam their door on my car!

Thanks for the advice... Maybe I'll put my once-a-mechanic uncle to spray my car hah =) hm... I wonder how hard it is... Maybe I should experiment! haha

Re:Paint Job

painting isnt really the expensive part, its prep. if you are confident enough to sand down your own car then go for it. but if your car needs patching from rust and holes and dents its going to cost you more money.

Re:Paint Job

let see i just had all my ---- done on my crx.

800$ for paint primer sealer clear and all that good stuff you need to paint a car.

1000$ for body work that me and a friend did. including 2 new fenders and 2 new rear 1/4 panels. and a sunroof panel. all the materials etc.

0$ to prep the car and kit all by myself

400$ for the car to be shot by a friend who is a professional. including jams.

0$ for the car to be buffed. (still isn't but thats free for me)

$1200 is damn good for just paint. anything under $800 u know u are looking at shitty piant. i used Dupont, PP&G is good also.

Re:Paint Job

I got to wash my car and take some pics, my paint job was like $400 but i got all of my materials for durt though my shop discount and i did all the work myself... Usualy what determens the price of the paint job is the materials, you can get a sinle stage paint which is chip and shity and spend a $100 (single stage is like paint and clear in one mix, trust me it's bullshit, that's what MAACO uses for their paing jobs) or you can get a good DuPont paint and spend $200 on paint only and on top of that you have to get clear where the galon of good PPG clear will run you $350-450 plus some good sealer 1 court $60-80 so right there you are almost at $700 just into materials. If you want to get a chamelion paint 1 gallon will run you around $2,500 that's just for PAINT and if you want get some awesome clear prepainr to spend around 1G just on one galon, so there you see how materials determen the price of a paint job...

Yeah, if some ------- hits me (which I hope they do). I'm taking my car to Maaco. My plan is to just do a Maaco paint job like every other year.

Re:Paint Job

your best bet is to go down to your nearest maaco and see the work they do... ask a lot of questions and check out the cars that they have painted all these bad experiences from maaco have been coming from one area (i read it on the internet somewhere) but the one i went to when i wanted my car painted was a good one they used 2 stage paint and for $500 they would do the whole car just go see for yourself if you like your work...i just decided to sell my car instead of fix all the ---- on it cause im a bitch

Re:Paint Job

a paint job is 3000-4000 euros here thats why I'm painting my own, and it will still cost me about 2000 euros because of material in Germany, I still have a lot of prep to do, plus install side skirts and lips, shaved side moldings and roof gutters, dents in door and roof, my hands are full. wish me luck...
