PA salvage certificate, hard to get R-title?

I found a crx minus engine/trans fender hood and headlight. I assumed it was wrecked but told him I'd take it if he had title in hand (its less than $300). He said he did so i told him I'd pick it up tonight. After talking for a while he mentioned a salvage certificate, wtf.

I assume I'll need to get an R-title for it then before I could register and drive it. Is that hard to do with a salvage certificate? I don't want another car with no title rotting away in the field if it will be too much hassle, but then agian I would love a cheap crx to throw my b16 in.

Anyone with any experience chime in. I told him I work til 5 then would drive down to pick it up, so that's how long I have to decide

Thanks

I may take you up on that. Only two options I have as of now are my girly towing it with the truck and me drivin it (don't know what kind of trouble i could get into with my limited license), or me towing it with the teg and girly drivin it. An extra hand would be great, I'm still undecided about getting it though.

all you need to do is when you get it take photos of it then once you have it fixed take photos of what you have fixed and have to send it into the DMV if i remember right and they will review it and then send you a R title. But just give the main DMV in Harrisburg a call and ask what you need to do minus dealing with the DMV and PA gov its not that hard at all turn around time can be quick if you bust it out i think it takes at at most around 4 weeks to get your R title

and dont tow with your limited DL that would land you another year with out and a big fine... but that depends on the cop if you get busted

thanks, Called the local notary and she said a very similar thing, jsut said I needed to actually take it to an inspection place to get the ok for an R title. Gonna make the trip down to check it out, hopefully it's not a pos stripped to ----.

good luck finding a place in PA ( im assuming you in PA, sorry if your not) that will do an R- title inspection. the application sucks, and there ----. they also treaten the inspectors with 2 year suspensions, and near 5500 dollar fines for even ------- the app up and putting down bad info. i tried with a RHD S13 Silvia K i had that got fucked and i wanted to rebuild. couldnt find anyone who wanted to do it. RHD is a grey area.... ::)

Here the car has to be rebuilt by a licensed re-builder. Then they have to have it inspected and pass before they can sell it or be listed as a rebuilt title.

you can have them in VA, you just can't get more than liability insurance on it. you may want to see what your insurance company would say about a salvage title or a r-title.

"sell" it to someone out of state and then buy it back, should get issued a new title... ;)

that's what I did with my camaro. registered it in a state that only needed a bill of sale like RI then use that registration to title it in PA. got as far as registering it, then lost my registration. Have the forms i need to fill out and everything :1

the wheelbase is barely shorter than that man. Let me think of a few things that went wrong
-it put too much weight behind the trailer axle and it started to whip on freeway traffic when we hit 40mph
-the trailer didn't have lights
-registration for the trailer was for a 500lb max jet ski trailer
-no easy way of strapping it on safely
-had to pull the rear wheels and pull the rear end up onto the tongue part of the trailer, dropped it on jack stands and strapped it down
-took so long to do that ---- we had an hour drive with no trailer lights with a crx blocking the truck tail lights.

It ------- blew cause I took so long to make sure it was secured safely. I don't know how in the hell we didn't get pulled as we passed 4 cops on the way home. You know how big trailer ticketing has been around here after that wood chipper came loose and killed that family.
