Out with the old and in the new

Well the time came and my wife and I finally decided get a bun in the oven and using the 86 as my family hauler just wouldn't work out. So I needed something bigger. My main items it had to have were...4dr's, awd, power windows..yada yada. So I was really close to getting a Impreza wagon but after test driving it and pulling a carfax on it and the stealership not telling me about ---- that was wrong with it after driving 3 hours to come see it. I'm like well I came this far to see this car so my wife and I are going to go down the street to a Starbucks and get something to warm up with(this was about a month ago and was quite chilly in Chicago). Then just came back home very disappointed without a car. Then I went onto craigslist for the millionth time to start looking again and found something that was just posted up that day. It was 1992 Galant VR4 number 957 of 1000. :6 $3200 and was relatively stock besides it was lowered and 2.5" exhaust. Called up the guy and told him I'd be down the next day to see it and will have cash if I like it. Me never owning a DSM before looked around and tried to find all the problems the VR4's and the 4G63T had to see if they were fixed or not. Everything turned out good on the work done to the car. So I took the 2 hour to Racine. Took a test drive and came back and since it needed new tires and the power steering just started acting up I told him 2900 and I had myself a new ride. ;D

I was sad to see it go as I didn't have it too long but needed something bigger for something more important and keeping and having 4 cars at my housing wouldn't work out. The 280Z wasn't leaving no if's and's or but's. I sold the 86 for 2900 after buying it for 500 earlier this past spring and dumping too much cash into it.
Now the VR4(snowy pics just taken today 1-18)

This how it looked the day I got it

The tires were complete trashed and one blew out two days later they were that bad. So my wife had kept her rims and tires when we traded in her ZX3 and she sold the rims so we had like perfectly good and almost new Kumho ASX's. High performance all season tires FTW! So she gave me the green light to buy some new rims and found some Nippon's which are Buddy Club P1 knock offs. 16" and weigh 15lbs so their not too bad and the whole set for 330 shipped. The only things I have done to it was installing a magnaflow muffler to tone it down some and the wheels and a new radiator and she drives and handles like a dream. The guy I bought it from didn't have it too long since he got it from his friend who does construction work who went down to New Orleans and traded for a pickup from the guy I bought from. Then the guy I bought it from missed having a pickup and decided to sell the VR4 and get another truck
as he did construction work also and missed the room. So here she sits in my drive way.
Found out it as steel braided brake lines and a adj rear sway bar, and a simple ball spring valve boost controller. She moves pretty good for being a 3300 hog but the AWD helps out. As for the 280Z I didn't forget about that...

T4 60-1..was thinking T70 but I didn't want much lag.

Yeah I have a cartech adj fmu cause I'm baller like that. The guy I bought it from upgrade to a MSnS setup but he said it ran fine with it at 12psi with good AFR's with the stock injectors and then just a upgraded pump. I've already got the Walbro 255 installed. I just need to get the new headgasket and the ARP headstuds installed. Right now it's got a blown headgasket so it barely runs and blowing alot of coolant into the cylinders. I've also got some mandrel bent 2.5" piping for the charge piping and 3" for the exhaust. Man do people just look at the pictures and not read the words.

I don't know if they ever sent them to canuck country. Hell you can get alot better ---- then this there. Get it's lightweight brother. The EVO1-3 are pretty similiar beside the all wheel steering and not to mention about 400lbs lighter and a better snail and manifold then the VR4's 6 bolt 4G63T.

Ummm it's fairly big. Usually T4's in general are pretty big to begin with. Exhuast A/R is .60 and the compressor is A/R 1.15. So it the straight 6 should spool up pretty quick and not have much lag I'm hoping.

New rims are in the snowy pics. The original rims are in the unsnowy pic. Was snowing tonight leaving work and can you say traction. :6 I would of killed myself in the corolla if I was driving it now with that 2-way TRD LSD. That thing was nasty to drive in the rain. :X

I like how the interior looks, its like a nicely done 4th gen civic. Well, I like all of it minus the ribbed shiftboot.

Dan, no matter how hard I try to not modify a car I own it's impossible. Hell i owned a 90 metro and installed a K&N filter if you want to call that modify. I just can't leave a car stock. It's just not right. As for this car. I don't want to do too much as I know it'll be easy to squeeze power out of it but don't feel like replacing trannies or transfer cases so it's gonna stay pretty much the way it is. I need this car to run as it's my daily driver so nothing crazy. Maybe just like oem upgrades like EVO3 stuff like a 16g, 510 injectors, cams. It's set to 12psi right now and scoots pretty good. I like the car cause it's mad sleeper material and not something you see everyday.

The interior is really nice. Black leather and nice support seats. I have a Bride seat in the garage that I kept from the Corolla but that would just look out of place leather feels good. :) The ribbed boot gives it that classis early 90's japanese touch. Though the eclipse leather boot fits and the stock shifter from it also bolts right in and is a oem short shifter for the galant.

There's enough pics of it on here but what the hell. Here's a couple more.
ass shot

older pic without the flares or the Illuminas and tokico spring so it's rocking the 4x4 stance.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...n/DSCN0888.jpg
thats all I could find on my photobucket account. I have more someplace else. The interior is just a Buddy Club bucket, S&W 8pt rollbar and a G-Force 5pt harness since after installing the rollbar the stock belts had to come out as they were mounted right where the hoop went. Then this for the passenger seat since with the removal of the stock belts and a harness won't work with the stock seats so this goes in and then I'll just pick up another harness for it.

Re: Out with the old and in the new

I call it the poor man's evo. Hell it was the closest thing we got to the evo before what we have now. I think I'm gonna install a resonator cause it's still loud after installing the magnaflow oval on it. Even with the stock bov venting back into the intake I can here it loud and clear like it was vented into the atmosphere. It's weird but I ain't complaining.

So is that 957/1000 for only 92 or is that the only year they made the VR-4. Because I have seen about 6.

For only 92.

I've seen a few in person, they're awesome.

Re: Out with the old and in the new

91 they made 2000 and 92 made 1000. Kinda cool...they had one in a old school car shootout vs a sti and evo mr a couple of months ago in SCC. It was 92 also but number 951. There's another one in my town but the guy is building it up. I get people stopping by my house all the time just driving by and see one of my cars and ask me if I want to sell it. First was the Z...then the 86...and then the Z again. The last time was some old ass koot too. lol
