I think that with the older echo you could swap a 2 liter celica engine directly in to them and with a turbo it would be the ultamite sleeper, not sure what would fit the new yaris, I'm sure you could still put the celica engine in it with some custom work.

I would go with the previous body style ECHO RS hatch, they come fairly cheap now. They use the same engine as the current model (1NZ-FE), and since theres a turbo model available overseas I would think it would be fairly easy to boost it. Theres also some decent suspention stuff for them so you could probably make a decently competent car out of one for the price of a brand new base model.

I just saw a 3 door yaris IRL today, i'd drive one. Other than the center mounted gauges the car looks alright.

I like the 4dr Yaris, but I can't stand the 3dr hatch. I've been putting a lot of thought into buying one, because I don't really like the looks of the Fit.

I love the comments about the Yaris being for girls, ****, and having the structural integrity of a tin can. You guys do realize the Yaris is basically a 92-95 Civic right? 1.6L 130hp 2000ish lbs car that gets 45mpg for $13k. Sound familiar?

PS: Yaris is surprisingly roomy for its size. This car is a really solid choice for someone starting a family. If you are single and young, there are more appropriate choices.
