I can see how it works. Liquids ALWAYS find their own level. So the oil level in the return tube would be where it is in the pan. BUT. As oil is taken from the pan via the oil pump it is being replace with what's in the return tube, and thus creates a cycle of oil being taken and "returned".

i dont see how that would work either, the only way the oil in the return line would be able to enter the pan is if all (or at least most) of the oil is pumped from the pan at one time. the (pressure)weight of the oil in the pan would have to less than the weight of the oil in the return line in order for the return oil to flow in.
so it will just sit there, then you turbo will be fine for a few months, then when it does ---- the seals, you will call greddy and complain and they will say ---- you, you did something wrong.
but then again, you would be an *** for wasting money on that damn kit anyways.

The oil return line into the oil drain plug does work as long as the turbo itself is above the oil pan. The height of the column of oil in the oil return line determines the pressure. Since that line is higher and longer than the oil pan the pressure will be greater and the oil will force its way into the pan from the bottom. It has nothing to with weight or where the oil enters the pan. This is in a thereoritical situation though, and it may not be the best way to do it in real life. (I'm a physics major so I had to jump in )

That is the worst setup ever. The reason people do it is becuase its alot easier than trying to fit it under the hood. There are definitely NO gains to have 8 foot charge pipes, waiting for the exhaust gas velocities to be at they're lowest before the turbo and adding a complicated oil system.
Again, this is done not becuase its a good idea, just becuase its a simple and easy way to put a turbo on a car.
