opinions on firewalls and a little help on effectivley using them?

so i just bought a new comp, and don't want to get it fucked up. it already has trend micro pc-cillin internet security on it, but i don't know how good it is or even how to use it. not very computer smart so any simple tips or tricks would be cool. also, how good of a firewall is it? should i just go out and buy a better one? thanks for help or flaming.

---- firewalls and antivirus :6

I install them but they end up annoying me so I uninstall them. I haven't got a virus since I was rocking a 133mhz pentium years and years ago and accidentally opened a program I knew was a virus. Open router, open pc, and no problems. Just be smart.

I think I used kaspersky for security, not sure.

I use AVG Anti-Virus (completely free), and refuse to use a firewall...its not gonna do anything..if someone wants to get into your computer, they will, firewall or not
