Fill it and then install it >:D

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

is it sleeved? if not the build was almost useless to a point. pistons were important but so are sleeves =x. install the bitch or sell it and turbo the 240 =)

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

^ stock sleeves aref ine unless your going over 400whp.

sleeves are for uber horsepower, oherwise, there useless.

Sell it and turbo the 240. Although, that ---- looks clean enough to eat off of...

yeah because stock sleeves have never seen high hp without a problem. ::)

krustindumm 08-02-2005 08:28 PM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

The goal was 300whp, but I needed .25 over bore pistsons and vitara's were not available in that size. That's the reason for no sleeves. I was pondering filling it or using a GE blockguard if I keep it.

I was thinking of selling it (~$1600) then just throwing in a stock replacement ($350) or a ZC ($450), and using the leftover cash to put some stuff into the 240.

i already have a y8. I might think of buying that off you if you lower the price a bit. ;)

krustindumm 08-02-2005 09:39 PM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

No way would it go lower, I have ~$1800 in it, and it has zero miles on it.

no point...

take your y8, buy rods $213 + ship with hmt discount from tuner toys, some srps, say $400 with rings

toss them in your block and you've got the same thing.

I love how people choose to build Y8s, them and their spinning bearings of death.

MikeJ-2009 08-02-2005 11:36 PM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

They don't have spinning bearings of death, they have oil pumps of death.

Either way its d and it won't make ---- for numbers# I have almost the same build and wish i bought a B

dragon 08-02-2005 11:40 PM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

lets not get into this d vs b debate. some of us can't afford b right now

krustindumm 08-02-2005 11:43 PM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

I'm building a d-series because i wanted a engine that bolted in with factory mounts

i'm building a Y because the dipstick is well clear of my turbo.

MikeJ-2009 08-02-2005 11:43 PM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

D can make plenty of power. With all my B series ---- collecting dust waiting on money, sometimes I wish I was still building a D.

dohc 08-03-2005 12:56 AM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

Clean motor, have some fun with it, I remember when I was d-series, it was a lot of fun knowing if I blew something it would be cheap.....now with the big b I allways have the thought in the back of my mind $$$ :)

Looks nice!

How much piston to wall clearance are you running? In the second pic it looks to be a little loose.

You said you spent $1800 on that?! How?

no ---- right, i built my b16 and even threw in a brand new clutch and flywheel for 1200 bucks :P

krustindumm 08-03-2005 11:34 AM

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

Machine shop setup all my clearances (I dont have a good micrometer or bore gauge set), I just assembled it. I did plastgauge the bearings, though I don't remember what they were, i know they were within spec.

As for cost, all OEM parts, everything rubber is replaced with brand new honda packed stuff. I should take off ~ $150 though, I forgot the 2nd set of bearings was on the machine shop bill too. I bought bearings before taking it in. They recomended grinding, so then I had to buy set 2.

Same thing happened with the pistons, had vitara's, they had to bore it, so i bought *Nippon racing* they sent me stock bore, and they were press fit pin, so then i bought SRP's.

I agree about the piston to wall clearence. Looks real loose yikes! As mentioned get that ---- off the lawn too. Lastly...about the comment on the dipstick. Be real when was the last time you checked your oil. I don't lol. Change it every 2500-3k look for leaks and be done with it. If its burning oil theres a problem. Shiny Z6 anyone? :P

I check mine every day when i get home if I was driving my car. Basically run through the lil check list in my head that I use at work. Oil, coolant, washer reservoir, brake & clutch fluid, PS fluid (on the 240), tire pressure.

update: i might have just discovered the easiest, most secure, and safest way to mount the CCA 6" core. I'm waiting for the paint to dry then it's picture time.

I need to trim the bumper, but it looks like it will fit perfectly in the opening. Gotta run though, so here's what I have so far:

Intercooler reverse side, I can easily flip to this side for stealth action:

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

i just had my block all worked out...vitara's, eagles, all honda bearings, crank, main, thrust...had it hot tanked, honed,...the crank was from a motor that had a spun bearing so i had that straightened, and all of the journals sized to match undersized bearings...and everything balanced to 9k and im in my motor just a hair under a grand. thats all parts and labor (with me assembling it all) including a full gasket set for the whole motor. so im not sure how you spent 1800 on all that...i had to have more work done than usual because of all the crank work and using undersize bearings. maybe machine shops charge more in your area or something.

but anyways it looks good! good luck with it!

remeber when i bought hotsex's old D. when i posted pics of it, everyone said to much piston to wall clearence. they are forged internals. they expand.

Re: ooh, shiny, my built Y8 *pics*

machine work-$500
Gasket set-$300
Rods-$350
Pistons-$430

$1580 + the engine was $250 I didn't know it needed bored & the crank straightened when i bought it.
