Ontario Guys: Insurance and Boost

this msg is for the ontario guys..

how has owning a boosted car affected your insurance?

what company are you with?
how much do u pay?
any extra hassles that come with owning a boosted car?
is it worth it owning a boosted car, especially if you live in a big city...i live in toronto and get hassled enough with my stock civic...

ohh and share any experiences with cops and your boosted car. like what kind of ---- do they give you and any legal issues that people should be aware of...

this is mostly for honda/acura owners...
please chime in...

Re: Ontario Guys: Insurance and Boost

i don't tell my insurance company. ;)

i got pulled over once for wrong coloured driving lights and was asked,

cop: "do you have nitrous?"
me: i used to, but is isn't in the car... can i ask you a question?
cop: sure
me: is nitrous illegal?
cop: no.
me: then what is the purpose of your question?
cop: if you had it and it wasn't secured in the car properly it would be impounded.
me: can i show you how i had it setup in the trunk? (get out of car show cop bottle mounting brackets still in the trunk).
cop: that is fine, most kids just stuff the bottle between the two front seats or have it rolling around in the back seat and that is when it is a problem.
me: thanks, cool.

oh, and don't have your valve on your bottle open on the street either, but it is legal to have it in the car.

You don't tell em. If you've got a clean record, SoloOntario has something in the works. Otherwise, it's off to facility with you.

So yeah, say nothing. When my agent asked me about the exhaust: The old one was rusted out and I needed this to pass the etest. Wheels always come with the car. Turbos just don't exist. Unless they're stock.

if you actually go and tell the insurance company "hey i just installed a turbo kit on my onced non-turbo car" you need help. Boost and insurance should not be in the same PHRASE.

unless u drive an EVO or STI etc.

i JUST finished the TDG training at work. and it is legal only if certain conditions are met.

1) under a certain weight you need no markings on your car. something like 5kg.
2) If over 5kg (say your watch F&F and are l33t cuz u got 5 bottles) you need to have certifications in TDG and acomanying placards / shipping documentation.

lol. TDG = Transportation of Dangerour Goods ;)

so if you really liked whipped cream, and had a trunk full and backseat full... you'd have enough hazardous goods to go to jail! f the government

Dont be a ------- dumbass and keep your mouth shut, youre already making a mistake because you made this thread, I hope your insurance broker logs on and reads it.

As long as you shut the ---- up about your power adders then you'll be fine and nobody will know, its as easy as:

A) When you go to local meets, dont open up your hood and show your ---- off to half the world, I heard insurance brokers go to local meets and see what people have, then they get the plate numbers and if its a car insured under them, they drop you with no reason given.

B) dont call your insurance company or any other insurance company and ask them "What if I add this or that" chances are they will find out who you are and check up on you, no matter what insurance company you call...The are not very humane people.

C) if posting photographs of your car in the internet, Blur out the licence plate, this has 2 benefits, insurance companies wont know who you are, and thieves wont know who you are.

D) Avoid getting pulled over, basically dont do any stupid ----, and if you cant help it, take it to the track or a country road.

Hope this helps.

E) If you go to the strip or autoX, take off your damn plates, or cover em up. Insurance companies send their secret agents out there too.

ive heard of that too, a few guys were dropped from geico for that ----... legitimate racing... I dont get it... Take your plates off at events

Re: Ontario Guys: Insurance and Boost

I don't get it either. It's not like they have to pay when you wreck your car at an event.

Re: Ontario Guys: Insurance and Boost

I have had a 45min roadside check by the cops before, he had no purpose to pull me over, just doing a speed tramp, saw me coming waved me in. (Waterloo/Kitchener Police did a HUGE blitz on modified car safety, PLENTY of guys car got impounded) He check my turbo timer thinking it was a radar detector, he knew there was a turbo on it, He asked, I told him. I got away for a small registration fine (Wrong colour on registration because I never changed it after I painted the car).

The only other thing is my company required a Vehicle Safety Check when I put it back on the road this spring. I took it to a Canadian Tire to get the check done. I knew the mechanic and he had no qwuams about my 3" DP, HM Crossmember, Interior stress bar or lower tie bar that I made. He thought my racing seat and gutted interior was cool.
