Friends of mine are electricians. So they have been doing the scrap copper thing forever.

One guy I know has his kids stripping wire as a daily chore around the house.

Scrap yards around here won't take charred copper though. They are trying to cut down on people that would just burn off the insulation and bring in the copper when it cooled.

burning wire is considered "dirty" and pays about half as much here.

yeah, i'm suprised someone hasn't came up with a cheap way to manufacture an automated stripper and sell them.. there's already some out there that go for $2k plus. As much as I strip i'd dish out up to 500 for one, can't justify 2k though.

i just may have to do some research in to it but i believe that you can get a young cambodian child for arround $400 or 2 for $650
they only eat once a week and don't talk much from what i hear
or just find a crackhead and offer him 1 crack rock per 100 lbs of wire he strips

There was a report in Queens that 2 church bells were stolen. I assumed that they were sold for scrap.

Just on the news last night there was a hotel under renovation and someone stole all the copper out of the air condition units in each room.

I think the law here is something about if a car is on the side of the road with a sticker you can pick it up and run it in the paper for two weeks and if they don't claim it or something you can keep it. I don't know the exact laws. I know my cousin got a Civic that way.
