Exactly. Saying there must be a particle there (in this case the antineutrino) because a pion decays to a muon which shoots off in a direction. The muon has 20% less mass than the pion, so what happens? On the particle level in a relativistic setting mass = energy. So this massless antineutrino moves super fast, and they move across the entire universe without interacting with another particle. So to sum up, that equation "proves" a particle exists that nothing can detect, it just has to exist to fit the law. Yeah it's nasty.
