well, i dont have the money to buy a new engine in the first place. secondly i do plan on going FI and a fresh engine woudl be ideal.

what does his rebuild consist of?
and what is included in your rebuild kit?

rings bearings and seals for everything that needs it. basically everything that would consist of an entire engine rebuild

Re: ok so trading parts for a rebuild plus springs

Is he replacing valve seals and/or doing a valve job?
Honing the block?
Is he pulling the engine and installing it?
Head or block getting surfaced? Machine work probably not included. Measurements should be checked against warpage specs.

Trying to get the picture of the services he is providing since you are letting some pricey parts go.
To most, a rebuild is just bearing, rings, main seals. If that is the case then keep your parts

lets see... he did mention it would be a good idea to have the head hot tanked and resurfaced. i will tell him though if he wants to do this that he'll need to do a damn good job and include those things you mentioned. origionally he was going to do the valve job for the traction bar but he said he would do the whole thing for the bar the dampers and he would give me some nice springs since what i have is ----

I think youre crazy, a fresh engine isnt needed to boost. its a freakin stock d rebuild, it'll blow just as quick as a junkyard d engine. Id say sell the parts, get money, but vitaras and some eagle rods, throw it in a d16xx block, boost it with a nice turbo, make 350hp. Or you could go your route, trade a 'friend' 550 worth of parts to rebuild a stupid worthless 'good milage' engine that you'll eventually boost, effectively lowering your gas milage. Maybe not by a lot, but it will lower it, making your milage defense worthless. And in the end you'll make 150hp. Its your car but youre taking the wrong path.

Oh yeah, and there is no such thing as 'a lil transmission work' transmission work isnt easy and nothing is simple. He might change the oil if youre lucky.

My friend Joe is very experienced with auto repair and metal fabrication. He has a shop and does all of my welding and fab work. I supply him with whattever he needs that I have to possibly offer. I learn as we do the work. I speak to him daily with questions and we go back and forth with suggestions and ideas. I also try to give good parts away that I am not using, I believe that "easy come, easy go" theory. So, I dont think you are getting a short end of the stick.
