Ok, need some AWD civic wagon help

Ok How similar is an 88-91 civic wagon AWD rear suspension to an 88-91 Front wheel drive civic rear suspension? i heard that the suspension is similar in design and has almost the same mounting points, now i know this will sound stupid and i probably asked this before, but what if i wanted to take the rear suspension off a wagon and custom mount it to my CRX, what i plan to do is make an All wheel drive CRX with a built ZC to run 20 psi, this is a project that will take a while maybe 4 years but i would like to get started now, i have never seen the suspension off a AWD wagon so i dont know how it looks, all i know is what i am getting myself in to, i realize that i am going to have to straingthen the chassis and also reposition the cas tank, lots of cutting and welding involved too, but i want an ultamite Race CRX that will run 10's no problem, so i am prepared to dish out the 5 grand that the project will cost me.

please no flaming, unless you already have a turbo AWD civic wagon and you wanna laugh at me because i am jelous.

oh i know this will be more then a royal pain in the ass, but it would kick ass to have a crx that can beat a ferrari in the 1/4 mile

Re:Ok, need some AWD civic wagon help

To beat Ferrari's you only need to run in the mid-low13's.

a stock 355 berlintenna runs 12.6, still i want an AWD CRX, why? A: because its never benn done before, B: it would kick ass to see a crx do a 4 wheel burnout on shitty tires, and C: i want to one day run 9.5 sec flat with a CRX, hey maybe i'm dreaming but dreams do come true.

---- thats awesome, why couldnt you post this ---- up before? well i wanna do the same setup, but i want the rear suspension off an awd civic wagon 88-91 because its cheeper and easier then a CRV setup, then again whoever did that is lucky because they can use any B series engine.

dude... I want to just convert my hatch to rwd.. it has to be possible. if he can make a 4wd crx I can make a rwd hatch. that ---- would pull some serious wheelies. theres a guy in my town that has a vw squareback with a custom turbo kit. and he pulled a wheelie in second gear on street slicks at the streetraces the other night.

Re:Ok, need some AWD civic wagon help

if you make it only RWD then be sure to reinforce the car, all wheel drive dosnt get the same stress and a RWD, plus why cant you just make it AWD? you can run 10's with a good engine and a good turbo setup, oh and the torque effects ;D , hehe, wow, i cant wait till i start this project, oh does anyone know roughly how much the rear suspension and the tranny from a 88 wagon costs at a wreckers?

is the back trailing arm on a wagon the same as the one on a civic or crx of the same year? can anyone show me a picture of the trailing arm on their AWD wagon?

turbowagonman 06-27-2003 04:26 PM

Re:Ok, need some AWD civic wagon help

the rear trailing arm is exactly the same except that its longer. you will have to shorten it some. not sure how much. you will also need the floorpan from the awd wagon to put in your crx, as its all different. with that you should be able to use the gas tank from the wagon, or you'll have to use a fuel cell or something. that other awd crx used the shortened wagon arms and crossmember, and made his own floor and custom fuel tank. then bolted the crv rearend onto the wagon crossmember. its pretty cool except for the homeade axles he's running in the rear. i think i'd have someone custom make ones.
i am contemplating making one of my crx's awd or just using the crv stuff in one of my wagons. haven't decided which yet. way too much fun!
