oil leak!

ok i just got my fresh Y8 put in and i have an oil leak. :-\ the engine has 200 miles on it. i don't know what seal went. it's not a huge leak but i don't want to boost my car with it leaking.

u can see how the oil come out from the lower timing cover and slowly drips down my oil pan. what seal could this be? and would it be hard to fix?

also since i had an engine shop put my engine together and it only has 200 miles would they have to take care of it?

where do you find a y8 motor with 200 miles ? even if it was a 2000, 200 miles in 7 years? i doubt it.

but yeah main seal.

no the engine has all new seals. that's what i don't get.
could it be because it's a y8 block and a z6 crank?

I've done the same thing when I rebuilt my engine. Replaced the main seal but when I did the lip got caught on the crank and didn't seat properly. Its not a big job to replace it. Just take off the timing cover, belt and lower gear. You can use something like a dentist's pick to pull it out then just push the new one in.

well i called the shop today and they said that i should take off the timeing belt cover and see if a sensor is leaking (is there a sensor there) or if it's a seal? if it's a seal see what one it is and give them a call tomarrow.

Re: oil leak!

ok i took off my valve cover and my upper timeing belt. i got a flashlight and tryed to see what i could see. well no oil. well then putting it back i broke a bolt. so i'll be takeing the train to work tomarrow. good thinkg i work next to a honda dealership. they give me a discount. so i'm going to get new bolts and an oil dip stick tube. i'm also going to talk to someone and see if i can throw someone acouple bucks for them to take off my lower timeing belt cover and tell me what seal is leaking. i can then tell the engine shop so they can fix it.

There is a sensor there if its obd2 but its not a sensor that leaks oil. Its the seal. Take it back to those nogs and tell them to change the seal.

Re: oil leak!

did a shop rebuild that motor for you? if so did you even swap it in there? big deal take off the crank pulley, pull that timing cover and look its not that hard, prolly take 15-20 mins. that seal is easy to replace, just pull off the timing belt gear and its right there. I think they cost like 4 or 5 bucks at the honda dealership, even cheeper than any auto parts store I've found.
