the real money is in Edmonton or further north. Fort McMurray pays mcdonalds, 7/11 etc $21/hr.

WTF? Cost of living must be sky high. I can buy "normal" decent brick homes here all day for 100-150k, but mcDs only pays 6.50/hr last I saw.

Not afraid to work in the cold, it just sucks complete anus. I'd rather get paid less and work in somewhat comfort. Heat I can tolerate, but having a numb body and all pain magnified sucks.

Re: oil field jobs

thats true, but if the money is right and the length of the job is short its all good. when i was in colorado most of my work was in the mountains and if it was too cold, i said "---- that, i'm not going out side". i guess the people i worked for understood or they just let it go because i brought some kick ass food to eat. hopefully i will be going to alaska in june. 3 weeks on 3 weeks off but only $37.88 and hour. but its 84 hours a week and thats $12,000 gross in only 3 weeks.

Re: oil field jobs

In Alberta a welder with his own rig can easily make upwards of $120/hr and the company covers all fuel and rod costs, also LOA or free camp and the camps are nice as ----. All brand new, gourmet chefs, lcd tv in every room, full gyms etc.

Re: oil field jobs

Damn. now thats the ticket. i just need to get the hell out of the south for a while......i liked colorado but where i was living they didint offer much for someone my age as far as entertainment is concerned. i wouldnt mind working in canada either. something different and somewhere new

NO the average wind speed for this winter was like 70 mph :6

Re: oil field jobs

i was there in august of 04 and it seemed like it never quit. not to mention the cold ass rain. it took me a little while to get aclimated but it worked out. i miss the snow in the winter time and REAL seasons, here in the south all we get is fall and summer. but the occasional 2 weeks of cold.

I work on a Rig based out of Edmonton Ab, i make $31 per hour. We get free diesel too, and once you become driller you get paid $1 per kilometer for your truck at anywhere from 100-300kms per day. You can have downs syndrome here and still make 100k all day long..
