officer candidates school
 

Anyone know anything about this? It seems like a good idea, you do it for 6 or 10 weeks and after i graduate college i can join the marines (but i dont have to) and start out as a second leiutenant.

i dont know how the marines work..but i'm pretty sure you need to do rotc to become an officer when you join ..and anyone who is enlisted has to go to OCS before they can become an officer

oh, so you can jump right in the marines as an officer? I think that would be gay going to basic and then tech school and pow..your an officer..but if it works. I'm just enlisting and doing my college on nights and weekends and what not in the Air Force.

the army has a program thats called green to gold they pay for your schooling and while you go to shool you go to rotc then when you graduate and get your degree your then able to continue on to officer training. i would go talk to recruiters and ask lots of questions and talk to like 4 or 5 diffirent recruiters so you can get a straight answer. good luck

Green to Gold is for prior service guys. (Army)

If you don't have prior service and you want to enter the Army as a 2LT then ROTC is the way to go. I dunno if this applies to the Marines/Navy/Air Force.

I don't know I definitely don't trust these programs now that they have for the army. I mean they had that "try one year" program where you could join the army for a year, well since troops are needed the contracts were illegally extended. There was a big lawsuit about it but whatever, you can't fight the government. Also with all the ---- going on the the world the last thing I would want is to join the army right now.

If you go to officer candidates school you stil have to go to basic for 12 weeks, have fun!!!

I know a little about this ;):

1. you graduate school
2. you enlist into the Marine Corps
3. you go to OCS (officer candate school)
4. once you become a officer, which takes about 18 months if you are not prior enlisted you go to your MOS school. (total boot camp time, and ocs school time, and most school time, is about a year)
5. then you go you go to the fleet where you go through pure hell because you are a second Lt, know nothing, think you know it all, way over-paid, you are pretty much worthless.

thats a pretty much nut and shell of it all.

the thing im talking about is the summer program (called the officer candidate class on the website, but the recruiter calls it OCS for some reason) and you get paid 400 a week for either 6 or 10 weeks and have no obligation. Thanks for the info junkyard racer

I have two friends who went after college. One to the marines, one for the Navy. Both said it was tough as balls. The friend who went to the Marine one got booted, b/c tehy have some point system for if your socks are folded right, how you do in the physical stuff, etc. The other finished and is now miserable as a 2nd Lt. naval engineer. I have heard that enlisted men are tough on you since you "skated" in.

there is nothing shady about that deal...

if you read what is on the contract and listen to what your told when you sign up, you would know that your contract states that your on ACTIVE duty for 1 year, and then you are on INACTIVE READY RESERVE (IRR) for the next 7 years. and on the contract it states that if at the end of your 1 year of service you CAN be INVOLENTARILLY extended for up to 18 months (i think its 18 months) during times of war and/or hardship AFTER your 1st year is up, and then after the 18 extra months, they must return you stateside (away from the war) for 90 days minimum and then they can send you back out for another 18 months. they can continue to do this for up to 8 years (your original contract). they cannot extend you past the 8 years.

there are no tricks, its in black and white.

i spent 3 years active duty and 4 years in the Army Reserves, total of 7 years served.

^^^ exactly. and its not even in small print. you even have to inital by it that you understand it! when you mean involantary its not involantary at all! when you enlist into the military(active duty) you sign up for at minimum of 4 years active, 4 years inactive reserve. meaning once you do your 4 years active, you are out. but within the next 4 years you can be contacted at any time to be recalled.

if you are already active duty, and they want you to extend, you have the right to refuse the extension, they can seperate you (because its your time to get out) and they can replace you with someone else. if they cant find anyone then you will be re-called. its how it works, and you fully understand that when you enlist, you have to sign next to it stating that you do understand it.

the military isnt as bad as half you people make it out to be. Im in the Marine Corps, on my second enlistment. Its just like any other job, if you make it to be that way. In the Marine Corps you have to hold yourself up to a little higher standards than the other branches, so I could only imagine how much easier the other branches are. It all depends on what unit you go to, what kind of person you make yourself out to be, professionally, and what your chain of command is like. I am a 100% total -----off out of work, during work, I am extremly professional, pretty much a totally different person. I enjoy the military. its not what alot of people think it is. Lots of people think its like the movies, someone wakes you up at 4am screaming at you, you work till late as hell, march everywhere, always getting yelled at, all this ----. my day is nothing like that at all. if you are a jackass, dont do what your told, that kind of thing, yes, your days in the military will suck. When I was in a platoon, I would get to work at 7-7:30, lunch from 11-1, then get off at 4:30-5:00. not a bad day at all. I could go on, but I will leave it at this. if anyone would serisouly like to talk about it, pm me, and I will call you, and talk over the phone. its much easier. im not sayin the military is for everyone, but if i can do it, anyone can do it.

I want to join the military and get based in hawaii without having to do anything. Boot camp doesnt sound like fun so I would prefer just going to straight to hawaii and living on their base and get payed for it. Oh yeah, and I want to fly the planes around like Top Gun. Think you can hook me up? :D

i was stationed in Hawaii for 3 years

its not all its cracked up to be on that island. locals dont like military and the island is like a "prison", there is a reason why its called "The Rock"
