Off topic: 2000 toyota corolla brake effort problem

Whats up, I was wondering if anybody can help me out I post usually in Forced Induction but I am having a problem with my mothers 2000 corolla (great car by the way, VVTI pulls nice, wish they made it 5spd though) hehe

Anyway I changed the brakes on all 4 wheels. In the front I put metal master pads and new rotors for extra stop and to last longer. in the rear I just put regular new shoes and drums. I bled the brake system. And She tells me that its taking extra effort to push the pedal to get it to begin stopping. Also when you push it harder it stops very quickly which I thought was very good 70mph to 0 in like no time at all, but not for her. I dont want to go and get all new TOYOTA FACTORY parts and do it again because it will cost like $400-$500. What do you guys suggest?

thanx in advance ,J

tell her to quit whining and that extra pushing effort is the exercise she needs.

I really dont know what to tell you except.. either 1 no offense you didnt bleed the breaks right or well enough. Or 2 the pad are barely seating on the new rotors and arent grabbing as well yet, or may never grab as well if they arent well made pads.
Save your $

I dont think its an exercise issue, because I noticed it myself. I think maybe its a bleeding problem or a pad seating problem. Now that i think of it I put the shims that came off the factory pads on one side of the front pads and not the other side. wouldnt that cause it to pull though... there is no pull just extra effort needed and a very hard pedal.

Give it some time, they should seat in.. My mom was complaining after I did her brakes with aftermarket brake pads. They got better after a few hard stops ;)

Is the brake pedal mushy at all? you sure all the air is out of the system?

Who did you bleed them with? By shims do you mean those metal noise reducing pieces? Yeah, you should have put both stock ones
back on, would it be a problem to put both back on and then see?

The pedal isnt too mushy it just sinks quicker than usuall but when you pound on it the car stops hard.

I Bled the brakes with her holding the pedal down after pressing down 3 times ... I did do it in this sequence FLeft, FRight, RightRear, LeftRear about 2 times over and over so maybe the sequence isnt right???

On those cars the bleeding sequence is left rear, right front, right rear, left front, dude, you have to bleed the one closest to the master cylinder last, that could be a problem.

or maybe the pads aren't getting hot enough.. go on the highway and get some good stops in. (probably should do this late at night)
