"noob question inside" 1990 civic hatch

i was looking in to getting a civic to play with and i found a 1990 civic hatch with a blown head gasketfor $500 with a 5 speed is it worth it?
howmuch will it cost for the new head gasket?
and is this a good foundation for a future turbo build?

Re: "noob question inside" 1990 civic hatch

Yea it's fine and a good deal if the body is in decent shape. Replace the headgasket with an MLS one from a Y8, they cost around $25-30. You'll also want to do a MPFI swap if it's a DPFI civic. Then slap a turbo on that bitch and have some fun.

yeah to bad the guy sold it before i could get ahold of him (found it on craigslist) but i have been eyeing up a 1994 civic coupe that some old lady owned since new for $1200 (only 93xxx miles, and a 5speed, or a 1993 sedan with an h22 swap i found for $1500 (the sedan is nice but it has a body kit and i hate body kits they are so ricer)

H22's make for fun semi cheap power, offer him 1000cash and hit up ebay for new front and rear bumpers. h22 4 door ftw!

Definatly don't buy the h22 swapped one. Stock cars for projects are much nicer. They haven't been fucked with. I already made that mistake.

i agree. and im the kind of person who likes to do things myself. 2 reasons being: 1)i know what i want to do and how i want to do it. 2)i can say that I did all the work, which gives me mad skeelz, lol

Re: "noob question inside" 1990 civic hatch

the only bad thing is i like the sedan much better (the body style of the sedan not speaking in this case) and where i am coupes are all over and all of them are riced out
i.e. 3foot high wing egay cai and and egay fart can and alteza tail lights and sterios with more power than the stock engine(oh and they are all automatic, i hate auto sooooo bad).

i want somthing that will hide in plain sight, somthing that is a sleeper but is not trying to hide what it is.(as in the fact that is is just a little honda so it shouldn't be fast but we all know the potential for power in them, so it's hiding in plain sight)

i know i just want to get somthing with potential i mean i could boost the 1988monte carlo (4.3v6) but i want somthing that is stick and gets better than 8mpg and a top speed or better than 75 (the 4.3"s suck they are a truck engine)

blackice90hb 01-05-2008 02:10 PM

Re: "noob question inside" 1990 civic hatch

are you sick? a boosted 4.3 would be teh hotness....is you trans fucked or something? My 91 bubble wagon would go faster than 75, and that was on a fucked up 305 and slipping/popping grinding tranny.

Anyway...just get a ------- car....supra is more baller and in the end be faster/handle better than a FWD hatch, but like it was said earlier, a hatch would be cheaper to make fast. Its up to you we dont make your money...its your choice as to what POS you have to drive to work everyday.

I would choose a Supra over a hatch anyday...but if they both are cheap as ----, cop em both.
