NO.. this cant be, blew up the cavy *pics*

My own ------- fault. I should have known. It was almost like someone was telling me to let off the gas and I wouldn't. Tonight I disabled my 110mph speed limiter and decided to take a decent rip. Decent enough up to 135mph. Yea after I just read that post about boosting in 5th. I don't know WHAT the ---- I was thinking. Coming up a highway hill on 10psi going 135mph. Then it happened. A sudden pop, then parts falling everywhere for the next 1/2 mile or so as the car stopped running. Oil, smoke everywhere. Somehow I was able to roll into hooter's parking lot just off the highway. I am really in shock right now. I still don't think I know what happened. So far I see that the oil return line is no longer on the turbo. The oil pan is cracked in at least one place with a rod hanging halfway out. Thats in the front of the pan. I can only imagine what the rear looks like. Oil covering the back of my car, oil everywhere as i'm sure you can imagine. ---- ---- ---- ----, i'm an idiot. what was I thinking? I have no idea. Just went to josh's and pulled him out of bed to chat about it. I think i'm just gonna snag a junkyard motor depending on what the damage is like. Build that with pistons and rods and lay low at 300whp or so. Well the towtruck just brought me home and my friend took some pictures, so i'll post those up in a few. ----... :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Rip baby

fucken sucks ballz.... we live and learn. I've done my fair share of 5th gear boost and nitrous shots... :y

Just gotta make sure the next one is better built.

Sorry to hear that man. :( Use this oppertunity to build a better setup. Look at the bright side, you did enjoy it while it last and you have a few kills under your belt. ;)

Good luck.

Damm nice work on ventilating the crank.---- happens and now you have a excuse to build a motor. We all have broke a major part here or are about to.I dont imagine the wrecker would want to much for a motor would they?Make the most of this oportunity and build a Honda killing Cav. :y

just think of it as an opertunity to put in a new clutch. i just changed a z24 motor in a girls car for like 300 bucks, motor was 240 with 60k on it from a local yard. you shouldent be down for to long.

:3 after reading the boosting in fifth thread...lol ...more than likely you spun a rod bearing... i would put a pretty penny on that ... some sort of oil starvation ..built up pressure that why it blew the sending unit out of the back of the block

That was one quick Cavy. Sorry to see it go. Don't be too hard on yourself though. Atleast YOU blew it up and not poor tuning or WG failure or something. You can brag this way. :P Anyway, time to build the block and blow some big steam. You plan on staying with the 2.4L? I hope so. Anyway, I thought this was funny....."...lay low at 300whp or so..." LOL. Low to who? Good luck man.

That's right... It's winter beater time!!! Sorry to hear about the Cary Pete, I'm sure we'll get it up and running stronger in no time. Hopefully another NE install/build.

i told pete this would be a sweet time to build a lower end, install his clutch and for me to make a topmount manifold for him.

i told him to sell his mani turbo downpipe setup to cover cost of internals, and then id hook him up with a mani as long as he paid for just material.

petes a good kid, although he did wake me up at 2am last night....

No biggy Pete. It was bound to happen at some point. Better now than than when I was handing you your ass at the pike next year! Just kidding bro. Hopefully you can get her built back up by opening day of the track next year. Think about it like a nice hard shove towards forged internals. It will be so much faster next year.

Yea that really sucks pete, hopefully you can rebuild cheaply and get it running again. I have never done 5th gear pulls in the accord, and im pretty sure sooner or later im gonna end up blowing the accord too...

That sucks man...

Speed is a disease, and like most diseases, it ends in an unfavorable out come

good luck with the new build

Re: NO.. this cant be, blew up the cavy *pics*

i think of speed as more of a unrelenting drug than a disease. when i was racing that gto i wanted to go in 5th and rip it, but from reading everything about 5th gear pulls i didnt do it. sorry to hear man. but we all have to learn somehow. :-\ i learned when i was running open compressor and my radiator hose popped off and i sucked up about a gallon of antifreeze. do i need to explain more?

5th gear runs tend to cause detonation in bad setups, and detonation owns rods...

Re: NO.. this cant be, blew up the cavy *pics*

My 240sx blew up the day I removed my speed limiter too (60 miles from home too). Perhaps they should start referring to the speed limiter as the 'rod retainer'

Sorry about your car. I think most of us know the feeling :(

jsut think about it, me and josh both blew our motors, and what are we doing now, building them. be like us build a motor. its what all the cool people do ;) but soryr about that man. i dont htink ive ever done a 5th gear boosted pull ever in any of my setups,

When rods exit the block at high speed its a very unique sound.. Almost like doing a huge burnout in the gravel, god I miss those days ;)

Sorry to hear Pete, put in some OT and save some money. Because forged internals are not cheap.
