No 300ZX for me. :(
 

So after work yesterday I rush out the door and drag my roommate to Vegas to pick up my new 300ZX. The whole time I'm nervous about the car making it back home because I know nothing about it. I've done this before, but it wasn't pleasant. :-\ We get to the trailer park :-\ where this guy lives and I see the car sitting out front with another 300ZX and a beat to hell Civic. The guy is waiting for me outside and hands me the key to the car. I jump in and fire it up. Well, I tried. It didn't really sound like it wanted to start, but then it sputtered and fired up. The check engine light is on and it smells like ass. It's missing like a mother fucker and it won't hold a steady rpm. He says it needs a tune up and it's been sitting. I go to the back of the car and the left side of the exhaust is pushing a good amount of air while the right side is hardly pushing anything. :-\ That's a bit more than needing a tune-up. I start walking around the car and notice the passenger window is missing. ??? He says it had just got broken into and he had another window in the back. I guess he was nice enough to rush to the junkyard and find a replacement window and clean up all the glass. I walk around the front of the car and notice the dent I saw in the photos is gone and now there is a rough patch of paint which you can obviously tell some dildo tried to fix it in the backyard. Looks like hell. The whole time I'm walking around the car checking it out the car is idling and sputtering and ----..........

I tell the guy I want to have my mechanic look at it in the morning(yeah right, later dude)and I would have to come back. I start looking at this other 300ZX he had sitting there and asking questions about it. I told him I saw it on Ebay and he assured me it wasn't on Ebay. I walk up and I notice the hood pins and I know I saw this car on Ebay. He fires it up and revs the hell out of it and it runs just as bad as the other pile of ----. Thsi one has an even shittier idle. I go to the back of the car to watch the smoke pour out of the exhaust and I hear a very loud buzzing. He said the fuel pump went out and he took it to a shop and had a new one put in. It was one of those universal Checker Auto parts fuel pumps. ::) Not only that, I look in his feedback and he won that car for like $1400 and the previous owner installed the fuel pump. ::) Thsi guy was so full of ----. He was trying to sell me anything he could. Then he offered to call a tow company and it would be $100 to tow the car to my house and he would knock $200 of the price. Wuh? I thought I was buying a good running car and you're offering a tow company? Not only that, what kind of tow company only charges $100 to tow 160 miles from Nevada to Arizona?

Long story short, I wasted my Friday night driving to Vegas for no ------- reason. Shady mother fuckers in this world. >:(

Actually after sitting in that car I really like them. Interiors are very nice and sporty. 4 wheel disk brakes with ABS, factory 16" wheels, RWD, V6, leather, power everything,........way better than any Civic I've ever seen. :P

I might be looking for a Twin Turbo with a 5 speed. Don't be mad that a bone stock 300ZX with full leather interior and PIMP status is faster than your built Honda. :-*

Those cars use to be my favorite, I remember having posters in my bedroom when I was like in high school. Then after working on a few and actually driving them, your perspective changes.

I thought it was a TT at first. :-[ I know the engine bays suck ass, but that's just because we're used to Honda engine bays with gobs of room to work with.

Taking a loan out and paying $700 a month plus $500 for insurance isn't exactly in my budget. ;)

hahahaha, how do you not know if its a TT or not, the TT have the slots on the sides of the front bumper for the intercoolers, and a TT is a pimp ass car, and is very quick with bolton mods, i ran a 12.7 with intake, full exhaust, and a boost controller, while on a stock ecu, tuned i bet i coulda got it down to high 11's low 12's, while pullin bitches like nothin. TTz owns, but you better get ready to have a car that is a bitch to work on. oh and a 350z is gay, they make ---- for power under boost, there was a boosted one at 9psi on 300zxclub or some z32 forum, and he only made 380hp with like 400tq. which really isnt ---- for a car that heavy, he might barely break 11's. driving them are fun as hell, i dont know what jeff is talking about, yes working on them sucks, but this is a beats rollin around in a FWD honda, they have a OEM suspension adjuster from inside the car. 300zx's are the ----, buy a TTz boost, you'll never turn back. This was the first 300zx I have ever sat in. I've always liked the looks of them. I hate the older ones though. :-X

I had no idea what to look for to determine if it was a TT or not(besides the turbos and intercooler). :P Anybody can swap the TT front bumper on it and call it a TT if that's all you have to go by. Those TT's go for quite a bit. I can't seem to find any good deals on them and even the ones with 200k miles sell for like $7000. :-\

Oh well, looks like things didn't work out for me.......again. :(

tt's have 245 rear tires, and a wing, and the front bumper, along with the cluster that has a boost guage in it. the interior feels way more sporty, and yeah the older ones suck ass.

All of which can be swapped out very easily. It could have any size rear tires, the front bumper could be swapped in minutes, along with the wing and the cluster. I might just buy a N/A Z for dirt cheap, order a TT bumper, wing, cluster and change the rear tires and look for a guy like you to sell it to for $8000. :P

i own both a turbo civic and a 90 300z,na though.the z is still a hell of a lot funner to drive then the civic even though it's na.i say if you can get a z get one,na or tt. lata

But you can't work on them. I would get seriously frustrated with an engine bay that cramped. I would rather have a 3rd gen RX7 over a 300zx anyday.

that engine bay is so small, even though its a fun platform to drive.

try swapping the engine and trans mounted up together. fun thing to do.

kevin and I just raced a N/A 300z with a few mods to it, 3rd gear I had him, 2nd gear he pulled on me. -and my car is now boosting between 3psi and 6psi, whichever it feels like at the time. -so if that tells you anything of how fast they are. :-\

you say they "feel sporty"
-put a racing seat in a boosted civic, put a few different gauges in there, and a civic would feel pretty sporty to. IMO.

My buddy has a TT, full 3" exhuast, chip to run 18lbs new manifolds and downpipes and a dual pop charger(turbo air inlet for us normal people) and my hatch running 10lbs beats it all day long. There slow as ---- whether there stock or built and way over priced IMO.

are you saying your civic with running 10lbs beat a tt z running 18lbs? no doubt in my mind a civic running 10psi would beat a stock tt but it pushing 18lbs though? those fuckers are fast. my boy with a 3 series bmw got raped in 2nd gear by a tt z. And they aren't over priced now. Boost found a good one around 2000 that he showed to scottsi. The car that over pirced to me is the supra.

And Frank we were talking about the tt 300zx not na. Yeah i know those one are slow.

Dont qoute me on this, but i think they run 12psi stock, so a 6 psi jump on those lil turbos isnt an incredible power gain. And yes, my 2L on 10lbs smokes it.

WRONG they run 9.5psi stock a car that is pushin 18psi is in deep 12's with those supporting mods, tuned it would be in high 11's, but many Z owners do not tune their cars. what does your car have before i call bs or say the driver cant drive worth ----.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of those cars pushing 400-500whp with minor mods on a stock block.

it should have been a close race then, you probably smoked him from a stop, from a rol or on the freeway it would have been different.stock block is very strong, just put some bigger capable turbos and pushing 500+whp is doable although not recomended but who needs to go with what is recomended =P 750hp stock block record with nitrous so i think 500hp daily driver is reliable, but we will find out when i get my new Z

Dont get me wrong, i know that they can be fast. I just dont like the fact the the intake has to come off to do any work on the engine and the car isnt exactly light either. But with money anything is possible. I worked at a honda/nissan dealer and basically any work on the 3's was 5hours+ to do anything because there such a pain in the ass to work on. Doesnt mean it took that long, but thats what they call for. 8)
