Default Nightmare tuning client

Here's his latest PM to me. I'll be perfectly honest: I got a little sarcastic in the post he's replying to because he was asking for a partial refund, and in his defense I can't say my communication with him has been timely in the last couple weeks... but that's with everyone in general and not him in particular, and I can provide four dozen or so referrences to that fact.

I haven't even touched on half that was completely wrong with his car, the fact he was getting off work @ 30PM and had to be back at work by 7 or 8 AM to first time, that I had work at 4 PM the second time, or that he doesn't know how to use a timing light. /me kicks Shreik.

Oh, yeah, the deal with the charge pipe is it flies off and gets run over on the way to the dyno appt. There's something wierd or wrong with the car, it's a BB turbo and spools at 1500 rpms, then the car just trailerhitches until 2500-3000 rpms no matter what I did with the timing.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I wanted the dyno time to be in YOUR name, and YOU pay for it, and I'M left out of that one. Why? Because I had very little faith in your ability to field a well sorted car that would make it to or through a dyno session. It's not between me and the dyno shop, never has been at any of the seven dyno's I've been to, it's between the car owner and the dyno shop.

So, how exactly did I lie? I took the $250 for socketing your ECU and tuning after dropping mad hours on your car.

No, let's get the facts straight. You roll up on tight unrealistic timeframes with a disaster area car *BOTH TIMES*.

7:00 or 70 PM wasn't it, the first time, and I didn't get my equipment on until what time precisely? It was about 20 to 3:00 AM, IIRC, that's in the 7-8 hour worth of bullshit neighborhood. You used MY SHOP and MY EQUIPMENT to weld up the 2" HOLE I TOLD YOU NOT TO HAVE IN YOUR DOWNPIPE, as well as a bunch of other stupidity covered in any basic DIY turbo primer easily found by a simple websearch or forking $30 for Corky Bell's Maximum Boost. I distinctly TOLD you to arrive on stock injectors, stock ECU, stock MAP, AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES HIT BOOST. Yet you'd emailled me about how the car ran fine UNTIL YOU HIT BOOST and should you run an FMU? I said *NO* you rolled up with an FMU. And, platinum or iridium plugs, IIRC, which is the last thing you want in a turbo car.

The second time you were pressing for a midmorning dyno appointment, I scheduled you *after* noon for a freaking reason. The stupid boost controller wasn't even installed when you arrived... you expect that ---- to just jump underhood and take care of business without you lifting a finger? They take a second to put on and to fiddle with. You roll up with Homeboy Depot plumbing connectors on the charge pipe that I distinctly remember telling you on your first trip down "Those do okay on 6 psi, after that they just fly off," and sure enough they do. Whose fault is it that, that we didn't make it to the dyno? Mine?

If you got a shitty tune for the time I had in your car, it's because I was given a shitty setup. You know, that's fine, I try to take care of people and show them the ropes, but YOU kept YOU from getting tuned. I told you ahead of time I was super busy, the kid was coming for the rest of the summer + I had the Pinks car, and then school. And now the move. I dealt with your shitty car, now you can deal with my shitty schedule, PERIOD.

You aren't getting one single red cent refund, Matt, because I did the best by you. I spent more time preparing your car to be tuned the first time than I spent tuning the 500 whp pump gas car you saw in my basement. You want to forget how I went out of my way to help you, have you ignore me on a couple of different points, and then you tell me *I* did a shitty job, and then still want me to tune your car?

You can start with an apology. You better be super ------- chill from this point on.

Its best to just ignore them and they will go away. Why would you want to even bother touching the car? It only has problems. The kid is an unrealiable idiot. Also make sure you mention that a mechanic's shop gets $75 an hour regardless. If they think you need a new starter, they charge you for the starter and the labor. If thats not the problem, you still have to pay. Then they charge you for the next attempt. As far as I can tell, if you were getting paid about $75 an hour, and only charged him $250 with chipping an ECU(parts cost about $30), you got enough for 3 hours of work. Tell him to find another tuner and not to contact you again.

BTW: Hotrex has herpes and Buk PM'd me randomly like a little ******.

Well, the deal is I've never done this for profit, and I do enjoy helping people out. Matt strikes me as a bright guy... it's just his first turbo car and he got a little cocky because he has strong mechanical skills and didn't stop to think - I don't think he fully realises yet? - about it being a whole new level of complexity. I feel bad for him stuck without someone who knows how to fix his car, but he's not the only one dangling in the breeze right now. He *had* a good window of opportunity to prepare his car so I could actually tune it, and I'm sorry if he's dissappointed in what he's gotten, but it is not my fault. I just don't want to deal with another aggro 19 y/old who wants to try me, intellectually or physically. I just don't want any bullshit.

----, the blue CRX I had videos of eating the GSX-R 750? I got three meals at Taco Bell and one breakfast last week at Sunny Point, by way of trade. I really don't give a ---- about the money I don't charge, but it's a slap in the face to have him ask for part of it back.

All customers are idiots. One of my companies customers spent $90k on a 110v machine, spent a week signing off on it.

First thing they do when it gets on the shop floor. Plug it in to 220v and bang 5k of damage.

This guy sounds like he relied on you too heavily. Perhaps next time, you should just refuse to do a tune if the car isn't ready. Give them back the money and let them waste the dyno time.

I didn't at any point ask for the money. I never do. He offered it at the end of the second session.

I figured he got the picture after the first time, and would check back via email if he had any Q's. After the second time I figured he definitely knew what the score was.

Time is money. Tuning cars sucks. Hotrex has herpes confirmed as early as 2004 https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...prev_next=prev

I remember hearing about his legendary inflammations circa '02. Most people didn't want to talk about it, but late at night after the womenfolk and children were in bed some would warn in hushed tones, "don't go to CT, that bastard will mouth rape you and you'll get herpes."
