It might not make any difference in anything josh, but I appreciated newbieforces, and I think that these guys are out of line.

Not quite. The biggest Key is bandwidth. Setting up the server is easy, you can install IIS/Apache/Any Webserver you want on whatever hardware you want, but you need the bandwidth to accept and serve up all the files. Your upload speed is pretty important here, so you need a fast DSL connection with good upload speed or a T1 line TO HOST A GOOD WEBSERVER. Cable won't cut it because the upload speed is usually too low, but if you have cable service with at least 100K/s upload that allows incomming connections on port 80 (if not there are redirectors you can use, the most important thing is the bandwidth) it should be ok. You can host on a 2400 baud modem if you want (People used to all the time, remember BBS's?) but nobody is going to wait that long and nothing will work, so you need to find a good amount of bandwidth to keep everything flowing smoothly and right now a high speed SDSL line is probably the most economical if you're going to do it from home. You also need to know what you're doing so you can set the appropriate permissions on files and such, otherwise you're going to get hacked by a bunch of little script kiddies that run cgi exploits against your site.

Re:Newbieforces update

what he said.

normal cable connections are 40K/sec upload, not going to cut it when 2,000 people are tryin to d/l files.

I just read all this and josh is actually wrong on how he was acting. I dont know the beef with him and steve but I bet steve had a pretty good reason why he banned him. This kid have been waiting for his ecu and it was wrong for him to bitch at you but your just pissing him off on purpose now. I read your previous post and now your just being a dick to him. And I think the only reason you took down newbieforce is because steve banned you. Your just stubborn is how i see it and selfish. Just be a man and give the kid his ecu and all this wouldn't have happen :-\

Re:Newbieforces update

The fact is Josh is a longtime member that I talk to on the phone pretty frequently. He's bought more oil lines than anyone on this site (I believe 9 kits) and I appreciate it. I appreciated it so much that his 4th or 5th I fronted to him. He told me he'd pay me the following week.
It never happened. I didn't get paid for that set until he wanted to buy the next set. This was fine with me for a friend, but he came up about $10 short of what the two sets combined would cost. I agreed to take a gsr shift knob in exchange for the $10. The money for the kits got here, but the gsr shift knob never did. I called it a loss and bought another one, but I wasn't about to have a fit over $10 from the guy, it just told me a little about how he works. When I bought the other knob about 4-5 months later, at the same time he was actually "just shipping" the original knob he owed me. The one I bought made it here. The one from Josh, still "lost in the mail".
The last couple oil line deals I've made with him I have had to make an ebay listing for what he wanted to buy so that he could use his dad's credit card to have billpay pay for the stuff. I've done that about twice, which is fine, but it shows that Josh Ross deals are RIGHT NOW deals and when things get behind, they just don't get done.
I CAN DEAL WITH THIS TYPE OF STUFF. The only real complaint I had about Josh up until then is that he lied to me repeatedly about that shift knob. It wasn't the shift knob, it was the principal that Josh just doesn't hold his own word to highly.
Then we have the old oil pan situation where the guy says, "I want my ----" and Josh gets all mad and tells him he's gonna send him the shitiest oil pan he has now. Old news, I don't even know if he sent one out or not.
Now we have the ecu thing. Josh fucked up and made the guy drive 3 hours to pick up the same stock ecu that he gave to josh. So the guy has his ecu now, but from josh's own statements "next time I have $35 in paypal I'll send it to you". And when I called him, he hung up on me when I asked him about it. He later pm'd me that he was busy, but he never brought up what I was asking him about again. How's that for respect? :-\ So Josh owes someone a refund and he's acting like a cock about the whole situation. He has Mary come on and fight his battle until she's called out, and he's telling this guy that he's just gonna have to wait until he's damn good and ready to send his money back. That's not how it works. And if you had PAYPAL in the first place, we wouldn't have to go through BILLPAY with your dad's credit card on everything you buy from me. So when is $35 gonna be in your paypal???????? ???

Just a little insight into what I know about how Josh makes deals. I consider him a good guy, a friend that I chat with on the phone, but this ---- has to stop. I can deal with the different ways you want to buy stuff, but when you start jacking other people around because you know they're helpless in what they can do about it, we (hmt) don't appreciate it.

Josh, when we banned Hotrex, he knew he was in the wrong. We still talk to each other on the phone like 3 times a week. He has accepted that he was wrong, and that no matter who he is, we can't let him publicly sell ---- here. Same thing applies to everyone here. I hope you can see this and not take this as personal as you seem to have. Accept that you were wrong, take care of it, and move on.

These are the factors that I have to deal with when deciding to classifieds ban. Unstable transactions, one way payment methods, AND BEING A COCK TO A GUY YOU OWE MONEY TOO BECAUSE YOU THINK HE CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

i waited for about 2 months for a knock sensor that i needed asap and even paid extra for priority shipping. granted, it finally got here and he gave me two and a wg actuator for the trouble, i wouldn't have minded except for it was something i needed, not something i wanted :-\ on another note, yeah, i was naming my files long file names b/c there's no organization and it makes it a million times easier to find them later, just scroll down until you see the long file name ;) if it was a problem josh, you could have emailed me or pm'd me, i had no idea that was causing any problems :-\ sorry.

And newbieforces is a completely seperate thing. You getting mad about us not showing appreciation about it now obviously has something to do with this situation.

Who could have avoided this whole situation in the first place?

fyi, i wasn't sent in here to fight anything for him. i still feel the same way and agree with bamboo. :-\ and i do believe that josh was the one who drove the 3 hours to give the guy his ecu. not the other way around.

sometimes you gotta take into consideration the turn of events that may be happening in someone's life rather than just assuming they're being an ass for no reason. i dunno. i've agreed since all this crap with the ecu started, he's handling it all wrong and very poorly. i just don't agree with the whole ganing up and bashing a long time and supportive member. :-\ i'd feel the same way if it was justin, or kevin, or kyle, or whitey or steve for crying out loud. i dunno, just tryin to say maybe we shouldn't be so quick to judge when we don't know 100% of what's going on. that's all.
