New whip! New pics!

Well I'm getting old and now with my new little parts getter that came at the end of August I felt I needed something a little newer and more family oriented instead of a DSM as a daily driver. I just wanted something that was loaded and everything actually worked as I'm tired of wrenching on cars. So I sold the Galant VR4 and the Datsun and most of any car stuff I had besides my TIG and HF flux core. I missed my old Volvo I had but wanted something alittle better....so....I got a 96 850R. Black on black...black leather/suede inserts..gunmetal 17" Volans(Volvo names all their wheels) Sorry for the tiny ass pics. I left this morning and drove 3 hours to Chicago and then did some shopping on our way back. By the time we got back it was already dark out. I'll snap more pics tomorrow. The Galant was nice but I was always scared the thing was gonna break down and didn't want it to happen when it was -10 degrees out. Not saying it can't happen to the Volvo but you know what I mean.
I just like something about black sedans. 8)

God your such a pimp.
Those R's are ------- sweet as hell. Quick too even in stock form.

Is it auto or manual ? Manuals came with the slightly larger turbo from what Ive heard, and mod VERY well.
I want to see a fluxed up 3 inch exhaust in a week Henry !

Good luck with it dude. Its sweet.

It's nice having a nice vehicle that you don't have to worry about. Did you pay cash for it or is it a payment?

------- right. I cant wait untill my ass is behind the wheel of another volve=o. 850's are the better of the FWD bs volvo converted to. id live another 740 wagon, but a 960 or a 850 would please me almost as well. Congrats dude.

Re: New whip!

Manuals in 850's are pretty rare. Not super rare but not something seen too often. 850R's never came with a manual option for 96. Weird, I see more wagons that are manual then sedans. It's nice, it's completely stock with only slotted rotors. Interior is mint, no rust, just been buffed. 117k on the ticker for a 96 isn't too bad. Has all the service records. Can you say all this for......$4000. Only thing it really needs is some clips for the fender lining in passenger side wheel well, probably a new cd player(still has the stock cd/tape player). I used the cd player all the way home and when I ejected the cd after about 2 straight hours of playing it was burning hot. Toss in another cd and it didn't reconize it. Then tried the one I just took out and did the same. No biggie as I still have the the one from the Z. I've never been this pumped about a car I've ever had. I still have my Buddy Club bucket from the Z and my Yokohama Advan A048's so come autocross season I'll give her a shot. :y

Good luck, 850's seem to be nose heavy bastards when pushed in corners. but then again, when fooling with Hondas it not a new experience. Volvo's RWD kick ass in twisties. stock twin piston calipers FTW...my 740 wagon had em. I think they all have them to tell you the truth. I cant remember if the 850 series has 2 pistons calipers or not. I just know that for a big ass Non ABS wagon, my 740 stopped on a ------- dime.

Re: New whip!

Well I finally took some snaps of the 850R. Haven't really done a whole lot to it. New poly upper engine mount(old one was completely torn apart) Pipercross drop-in air filter, eBay single din cd/dvd player with a 4.3" screen(old deck wouldn't spit out the cd's sometimes), and a new 850R grill. I've got a stock pile of suspension and basic tune up parts building up I have to install but it's been so ------- cold out and I only have a small space heater in my garage. The car drives fine but the wheel bearing is starting to go out and howling. I've got the stuff already for that but...just need to man up and brave the cold to install that. Man it's good to have a nice car again.

I wanted something reliable, safe and stylish. Cause just being a married guy with kids doesn't mean I have to drive something boring. I'm still boosted. Not to mention being one of the safest cars on the road. O0

My first turbo was from a Volvo. :D I like them. I can't find the vid, but SloS13 has them I know of the "Death Wagon" Volvo. Man, that car was cool.

P.S. That Volvo avatar is pretty sweet. :y

Nice. Every time I see one of those I like 'em more and more. Are replacement parts expensive? How long do the clutches last?

My ex's folks had a matching pair of 98 S70's, I really like the cars but i remember them being expensive as ---- for parts. Maybe that's cuz they were new at the time

Re: New whip! New pics!

Parts are actually pretty cheap. Everything I bought so far was brand new either actual Volvo or some german made fag ----. Check out FCPgroton for replacement parts. Now aftermarket parts are kinda pricey since China hasn't hit the volvo market yet. lol. Oh they have a goofy ass 5x108 bolt pattern but Volvo has a nice oem wheel selection to pick from. I'm not looking to go all out as I still want to keep it relatively stock enginewise. Turbo engines are usually between $500-1000 from all I've seen.

Oh man I love Swedish cars. I had a 1983 B21 powered 242 turbo brick and I loved it. I upped the boost to 1 bar and it pulled about like a stock DSM. I then owned/modded a handful of Saab 900T's. My favorite was my 1985 SPG. It ran at 17psi on a slightly larger T3 and made really decent power. The motors are downright stout. It was a 1 tire fryer all the way.

The RWD Volvo was my favorite though and even though it was heavy it still drifted great and laid big old patches. The FWD Saabs handled better than one would think, but were traction limited like a ----------er and popped trannys repeatedly above 200whp. Swedes design(ed) a great car. Now that Ford has taken over Volvo and Chevy has bought Saab; it's all over. I've wanted to do a 2.5L T5 swap into an old turbo brick for awhile now and it'll most likely be my next project as soon as I can find a clean/cheap 242 turbo. 5 cylinder+RWD=flawless victory.

fa sho, there was a cleacn ass sedan on turbo bricks with the T5 in it. I want to get another 740 and go for the t-6 swap, that ---- would be raw. Money prevents all though, as that would be an expensive ass swap. Turbo redblock FTW
