New Welding goodness.
Well, I finally bought my first welder. lol. It's a Lincoln SP135T mig. It's soooooooooo fun.
I'll trade welding services for lunch to MN HMT!!!! ;) The first night I had it I hadn't bought the gas yet. I started making a welding cart, and the welds look like ass. With the new gas, it's 500 times better. I don't even know why I tried to flux core it. :-\ http://img133.echo.cx/img133/1143/welding14yo.jpg http://img133.echo.cx/img133/7154/welding29sy.jpg http://img133.echo.cx/img133/620/welding32qs.jpg |

Re: New Welding goodness.
Which helmet did you get? I looked at a "speedglas" helmet today at the welding store, but the guy wanted $170 for it. ::)
I see alot of cheap ones on ebay, I just don't know which one to trust. The speedglass one is made by 3M (Which Cray's mom works for ;)) so I'm gonna ask him what kind of discount he can get. |
Re: New Welding goodness.
harbor freight has a auto darkening helmet for $50
|
Re: New Welding goodness.
for a nice autodark your gonna pay like 80 bucks..you can get an adjustable one with the bigger window for 150plus...most of the time i just use my standard shade 11 lens..cuz after a day of welding you still get the itchys with the autodark..

Re: New Welding goodness.
I know what you mean about the flux core to gas difference Steve. First welder I bought was a flux core and there was spatter like mad. Then my brother said I could have his mig welder and it made me feel like a pro compared to the flux core. I am not sure of the model that I have, but it looks very similar to yours, I like it alot. My wife bought me a $60-$70 auto-darkening helmet from one of those tool books. It works well and is adjustable. I don't think you have to spend big bucks on a helmet to be safe.

Re: New Welding goodness.
How much did that welder run ya?

Re: New Welding goodness.
Nice Steve,
I just bought the speedglass last week, sounds like you went to Toll... He gave me a few bucks off to convince me, and I love it. I got the #10, and it's definately brighter than the #12 we had. My roomates don't like it, but I dig it. Way nicer to have a auto-darkening. Welds are looking good, keep practicing and get Derek some shades so he can watch and learn. |
Re: New Welding goodness.
looks good
harbor freight is the ---- its 10min from i live |
Re: New Welding goodness.
wow stealth good welds.
|
Re: New Welding goodness.
speedglass is way better than any HF or ebay cheepo helmet!!! Im thinkin on getting one!!

Re: New Welding goodness.
The welder I got at sears. Even though I was ready to pay for it outright, they gave me 15% off for starting a sears card, so I got a 15% discount and will pay off the whole thing the first month. The welder was about $450. The gas, bottle, and a big spool of wire was $166.
I've been researching prices and ---- on these things for a little over a week. I feel bad because if I would have waited for it to arrive from somewhere else I coulda saved some money, but it was a saturday, and I wanted my ----. Moral: Wait and save money, or get it now and pay for it. Either way, I'm still happy that I can finally weld anything at the drop of a hat. 8) |

Re: New Welding goodness.
so if i take you to lunch you'll weld my charge pipes and down pipe? ;)
|
Re: New Welding goodness.
Of course.
I'm thinking a MN HMT barbeque is in the works for either this weekend or next. ;) |
Re: New Welding goodness.
for the record, i just had sex.
|
Re: New Welding goodness.
^ good job
My 50 dollar HF autodarkening is ok. I'm sure its not comparable to 200 dollar pieces but its not like i'm welding for hours upon hours straight. The most I'd weld in a sitting is a downpipe and maybe some charge pipes. No eye fatigue at all. |
Re: New Welding goodness.
Welds are looking good steve, Ill have to hire you for a few small jobs I have. :)
|
Re: New Welding goodness.
I saw the flux core welds, man were they ugly.
Good to see that the gas made all the difference in the world. The other weld looked like ray charles was welding your cart. |
Re: New Welding goodness.
I think the NASCAR sticker is what really improved the welds. ;)

Re: New Welding goodness.
if i can make it to the BBQ I can bring my ebay autodarkening if you wanna try that out. Other than the price I can't comment on it 'cause I haven't had time to use it yet.
Okay, I used it today, very nice. Totally worth 41.99 shipped O0 |
