New VW Project

Hello all. Just picked up a 96Vw Golf, which I plan on putting a turbo in by next spring. However, I was hoping one of you may know a good place for me to begin my research on everything this will involve...and I mean everything. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You can start by looking on the interweb NOOB!

Guys this is one of my good friends so any help with a VW site with turbo info would be great. I am having trouble finding the thread where a guy did an HMT setup.

Re: New VW Project

first thing.....get rid of the ABA trans, get one from a 16V passat, i think the code is 4K
second, swap in a 1.8t...more power and prob cost less

Re: New VW Project

....VW's are nothing to mess with.

serisouly, i know a guy makin about 400hp, N/A and will soon be makin a 400hp turbo vw. BTW, this motor is going into a 700# rail buggy (aka, dune buggy, but in south carolina there are no dunes, so they call them rail buggies)
it should be pretty serious. his main concern hes messin with now, how to hook it all up to get the power to the ground. ;)

to bad i will probably never see it. :-\

Re: New VW Project

Yeah I have checked all those. I have started checking into this. I really dont have the time to do all the research and he really doesn't know enough about it yet. I think this is going to be a back burner project.

Josh that would be one hell of an HMT NE install! None of us would know ---- about it!

Re: New VW Project

It's not that easy to make power in a 2.0 VW but it is possible. The main thing is working the head over really good. You have to remember that VW's suffer from air starvation. I've seen 2.0's hit 13s even 12s.
Let me know if you need anymore info or help. My first car was a 2.0 Jetta.

i've seen guys make 135-145Whp N/A w/ a digifuck counter flow head and ABA block.
remember, big valves are your friend

umm...4k tranny would be from a 84 GTI... 16v Passat's had "02A" code trannies in them. but to swap that in you would need the pedel assy, clutch master and slave w/lines, shift box and cables....there is probly more. it would diff be a good idea to do if you plan on making some real power (along with a Peloquin/Quafie diff)...

i got an 02A and 02J for sale if anyone needs one ;)

1.8T swap wouldnt be a bad idea either...

Re: New VW Project

the only probelem with that is his is a 96 so its going to be alittle diffrent. and does that engine have the intake and exaust on the same side of the motor? wtf. the one he has has intake in the front exaust in the back. theres little room to work with back there. you might be able to ge a snail in there somewhere. you might try to remotly locate that turbo. since theres crap for room back there but theres tons infront of the block. if you remotely located your battery. there would be tons of room to work with underthere. should be fun when your done with it ;D
