i might be a lil late here, but i just found out about the new skylines being the same car as the G35

my firend's father in Jamaica owns a business that imports cars from Japan, he said it is nothing like the concept car and it is EXACTLY like the G35 coupe. EVEN the G35 sedan is called the skyline in Jamaica.

Thats bullshit. Nissan needs to step up and make the skyline the mark that it used to be. I've heard that they were going to bring it here as an infinity (I was hopeful that it would replace the ugly ass M45), and that fell through. Then I heard that they were going to bring it here as a big V8, but that fell through as well. No one doubts that the Nissan VQ engine is a sweet engine, but they need to put in some R&D to make a new pengine rather than shoehorning it into almost every car they make.

i do like the infinity G35 coupe and sedan.....very impressive cars, BUT for a skyline...HMMM??? not too sure about that,

Nissan just simply calls it the Skyline overseas, its the same as the US G35, its not replacing the GTR.

this is apparently the prototype GTR(35) version...this is pretty old news, not sure how its changed since then

i am not sure if nissan is goin to use that prototype design........according to my friend, he said the GT-R will be released in 2005, and it might just be a upgraded version of the current skyline(G35) as usual.

but hey maybe i'm wrong....i am just as axious/curious to see what the new GT-R will look like.

I read an article in motortrend that "slipped in" that the G35 is the new skyline... Kinda dumb for nissan to call it something new, instead of "Skyline".

They could have called it a "skyline" then in 2-3 years brought out the twin turbo "GT-R" edition.

Kinda stupid to say here's are "G35" then release a car that is almost exsactly the same, but call it a skyline GT-R..

Sad, GM and ford have the "marketing" down but can't make anything worth a crap, affordable, and reliable. While the Jap cars are great, but it seems like they always set themsleves up to fail on purpose !!! Like a toyota celica that makes 180hp for .0001 seconds, then you shift. A sentra spec-V that makes "good power", but for some reason is pretty slow. A honda civic that is heavier, pretty much uglier than its prevous model, and is much more limited in production ( speaking of Si of course ). Of course the Evo and Sti are really cheap, and with mistu going outta businuss and all, I bet they're just dying to see people that have a 3year old EVo with a broken ( anything )...

Mean while ford makes the SVT focus( its not that bad ), Dodge makes a damn good little SRT4 neon, and GM talks smack on every "car TV show" there is about how GMs are fixing to bust everyone up !!!

Noless, I'd want a Skyline/G35 GT-R reguardless of what its called !!! Even though its going to be sold here, doesn't mean I can afford one, hell I'd have a G35 2-door if I had $35K lying around... ( not an Evo or Sti ).

Well, I was too stupid to reallize where the G"35" got its name from...

I've loved the G35 since the first time I saw it... Before its was motortrends "car of the year" and before I found out it had a skyline chasis... I still love it... Doesn't look like a Skyline.... And as much as I love the G35, I think the "Skyline" shouldn't be what we know as the "G35".

Looks like the new Altima is as fast a skyline now, haha.. fug-ly ass altima is fast as hell, yet more of what I was speaking of with Jap cars "setting themselves up for faulure".

Altima 3.5L = 14.3 ( MT )
350Z 6-speed = 13.9-14.1 ( MT )
Mazda RX8 = 15.6, is best I saw at the track, hehe but MT tested one at 14.6 ( cough cough bullshit cough ), worst run was a 16.3... RX8 buyers >:(

The ------- 350z IS faster than the sktline !!!?? Nissan screwed that up, huh...

Next GM is going to make a LS6 powered camaro for $25K and still try to sell the Z06 for nearly $60K...

first i'll like to say i have seen old 4door skylines (r33-r32-and r34 shapes) they come with Inline-6 N/A engines.
the skyline is just a model line, the performance ones are the GT-R.

just like having a LS, GSR, Type R, all are integras.

the GT-R is set to be out nex year 2005.

and that one will BE ALOT FASTER THAN THE 350Z

I knew they were dropping the SVT focus, but I doubt they are dropping the lightning. The SVT cobra is being beefed up for the new model. And just b/c ford is dropping the focus doesn't mean the SVT one isn't good. ( That's hard for me to say since I own/hate a focus in my driveway).

Highly doubt most of you have even drove the new Z or the G35. They are incredible cars, it didnt suprise me at all to see the Skyline badge on the G35 in JDM land. Remeber, this is just a base Skyline, nothing special. I'm sure the GT-R will be a very impressive machine. I think the new look and vq35 are going to go along way.

The skyline is just a model name. In north america they use abstract numbers and letters instead of model names to give accolades to the entire lineup.

i.e. Inifini G35, Acura EL, Mercedes SL, etc etc.

Who answers the question "what do drive?" with a "3-series" they say "BMW".

Why do you think caddilac is changing their names from Catera Touring sedan to CTS? Same reasoning. The skyline will NEVER be sold in north america under the name SKYLINE. under G35 GTR sure, but never under a name.

Also look at the performance numbers, what was a RB rated at 285 Hp, what is the new VQ 287 HP maybe even more with japans higher fuel grades. Nissan couldn't give two shits about the aftermarket, that will strive regardless. Hahn racecraft HAS a 650 HP turbo kit for that car. Nissan doesn't need to supply the turbo, or the management, or even the warranty. Besides anyone here would take a base model G35 over what little honda they are driving, that includes me.

i've seen the 350z run and get smoked by a crx,civic coupe and they didn't impress me,i've seen a G35 coupe run and that is an impressive car,we're never going to get the good stuff like japan so we have to deal with i'm honestly with all the restrictions there is.if we're lucky will get it other than that nissan is no going down just like all the other car dealers.there isn't anything sporty anymore everything is now looks and making money.
i don't think we'll ever get to see something that is worth buying anytime soon.

i love skylines. Matter of fact i love them just as much as i love hondas. Im not sure what the plans for the "american version of the skyline" is going to be but i hope not like that. I mean come on nissan stop making it look just like the z. They seems to run out of ideas i dont know but they could do better than that. And i know that black skyline pic looks photochop but thats not a bad concept skyline. I've driven the z many of times and its not a bad car. But i can honestly say i would never pick a 350z over my civic. Just not my style and too damn heavy. I just hope whatever they come out for the skyline/g35 for the near future dont let down us skyline fans :-\

the baddest ass z ive ever driven was a datsun 280z with a built 350. ive driven a 90's tt z i wasent impressed they feel realy sluggish and not to agile. kinda like a fast brick. my freinds dad just got a gtr33 i want to go for a ride in it but they bought it with a blown motor and his dad is building the motor with a single turbo setup and always brags about it.. personaly i dont think its worth the 30k they spent on it

Word from infiniti is the skyline GTR is coming as simply a VQ35TT, stock to be rated at mid to high 300s in HP, but we all know what to do with that. The only issue I see is that the G35 coupe is too low for the AWD setup, on the sedan fits it (ie. G35x). A raised coupe to fit the AWD setup would be lame, but maybe they are just releasing the G35x as a sedan so the AWD will only be available in the coupe as the GTR.
