new project what do you think?
I just got a 92 civic and have a guy that is willing to sell his d16z6 (i think thats what it was) Its the sohc vtec. I am planning on building the motor up (sleeves, pistions, rods) Throw a turbo on and control it with ems.
What do you guys think? Should i spend more money and get a better engine? How much would you buy that engine for (it has rod knock)? Will there be alot of modifications to make the motor fit into my car? Thanks |
Re:new project what do you think?
you can get thoes motors for 200 bux, i plan to do the same kind of setup, D16Z6 built with turbo.

Re:new project what do you think?
get a B-series if you want to go fast. Since it drops right in your car without mounts it wouldn't cost that much more than a Z6.
Depending on how much your buying it for but I would just start with an LS swap. |
Re:new project what do you think?
well a SOHC vtec motor could go a few different ways.
and how to build it depends on alot. what are your goals with it. if you just want a good street car, i would just boost it. if you want a awesome street car that could be raped with lots of boost, i would build it. the difference in money here is like comparing apples to oranges. |

Re:new project what do you think?
an ls cost a little more then d series??? all the b-series i have seen are going for 600. Also, the b-series just drops right in? What about the tranny and axles?? Does the d16 go right on the stock mounts aswell?
I am looking to get some pretty high number. I goal is to have about 300 whp for daily driving and for the track run as much as possible. |

I goal is to have about 300 whp for daily driving and for the track run as much as possible. the B series will require a full swap. this includes a tranny, axles, the motor, ecu, wire harness, and linkage. 300whp will be fun to make on a d series. on a B series you almost start half way there. |
Re:new project what do you think?
what do you mean "here we go again"?
and won't the d16 reuqire me to swap the ecu and wiring harness? I also thought the gearing was different so i will so swap tranny and axles if that is true. |

Re:new project what do you think?
92 civic hatch
|
Re:new project what do you think?
you have the 92 so your engine harness should be the same as the Si (unless you have none or someone swapped them), so it won't be too hard to swap in a vtec motor. That's a plud for you. Why don't you tell us exactly what you have to work with.

and you will still have to wire it for Vtec. might this be of a help to you... http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/index.html |
Re:new project what do you think?
yeah I read it, to my knowledge all the 92's came with the same wiring harness as the Si. And if it needed to have a vtec wire I think it was one or two. I don't remember, I gave up on gathering information about the 92-95 when I found my 91 hatch at like a third of the price.

Re:new project what do you think?
damnit, sorry guys its a 91 not 92.....ops. Guess that changes some things

and yes, if you have a 91, this changes everything. i think you need to search www.honda-tech.com, and this site, and the other link i give you and then ask questions buddy. ;) |
Re:new project what do you think?
off topic, but I am just reminded of a chance for me to buy a 93 si in nice shape for a grand. Reason why I couldn't I had to pay rent the week before. Fucken ----. I'm still mad about it. And before someone asks, yes it has been sold.

Re:new project what do you think?
ya, i think i am gonna stick with the d16z6 i am just not sure on what kind of motifications i will have to do to make it fit. Also unsure if the d16's tranny is cable or hydraulic, i don't feel like switching over to hydraulic.
Hopefully i will pick this engine up on sat for 150, and start building it. |

Around here full LS swaps go for $500. I picked up a full D16z6 for $83.00 at the u-pull-it. ---- there was even an LS there, but it was automatic. The motor was good, I can get that for you for $80 also ;) |

mix and match integra/civic stock mounts. No aftermarket mounts required |
Re:new project what do you think?
i just put an ls in my friends 94. its the easiest swap ive done so far. i got an ls for my old crx for 200, a gsr cable tranny for 225, and then axles, ecu, etc for like 60 bucks shipped, (i found a guy with a bunch of integras at a yard). if u put in a d-series, itll go right in, and u can keep the tanny that is already in it. u dont need the same year tranny on the motor. wire it for vtec and its good to go.
