New Motor Built and Going In *vid added*

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUEx7wEhUcA

Just thought I'd share my most recent upgrade. My old motor really wasn't in too bad of shape, but I had a few knicks on the pistons, and if you looked under the car, it was leaking oil from just about everywhere possible. You couldn't even fix the leaks, because you didn't know where they were because there was oil pretty much everywhere. So I decided to just go ahead and put a bult motor in. And here she is.

~2.0 4g63~
.02 Overbore
8.5 : 1 Mahle Pistons
Eagle Rods
King Bearings
Balance Shaft Elimination
And hopefully no more leaks!

She should be up and running in about a week. Hopefully I can get it on the dyno and tuned for pump gas before winter really hits. Thinking about 20psi on pump, 30psi on race.

I'd strongly advise against the black block paint...if you've had leak issues and its obviously a concern, that black is gonna make it hard to see leaks.

I think that advice might be a bit late seems how it's already painted, unless he wants to take some paint stripper to his block.

i actually saw a kid with a red b16. Thought it looked gay but he said it was easier to see leaks. Imma paint mine white :6 (not really)

That's a pretty good idea, but ya it's a bit late now. It's black, and staying black. Grey would have looked pretty clean though, oh well. Hopefully my leaks are gone now though.

The black paint is a thomas theorem, if I can't see any leaks, then there isn't any leaks ;)

Ha, ya it's just too bad these things aren't japanese. My friends are telling me to break it in all easy, but I'm thinking I'm going to do it like I've been hearing, which is to do some good pulls right off the bat to seal the rings better.

Re: New Motor Built and Going In

Car is done. So far has 30 miles on the new engine. Did a few vacuum pulls. Then did a few mild pulls at 0psi. Then did a few at 5, then did a few at 10. And made sure to let the engine wind itself down. Never really got up any higher then like 4500 rpms though. But she's running strong so far, and no leaks. I gotta readjust the clutch pedal. But other then that, working great. I think I'm going to buy a video camera today too. Some vids would be cool!

whats the rest of your setup (turbo/fuel/drivetrain)

Re: New Motor Built and Going In

FFWD Head/cams, stock intake manifold, 50trim, 660's, aeromotive FPR, 255hp, safc2, keydiver chip, x-clutch, stock tranny(hoping to get it rebuilt this winter). Basically everything else is your typical supporting mods, which I'm sure you're plenty familiar with, no need to list it all. Getting a street tune this Monday, probably around 20 or so psi on pump. Last time I made 263 at 18psi on pump on a Dyno Dynamics which are known to read about 13% lower then Dynojets. They gave me a corrected number of 297, but meh, I don't like doing all that correction bullcrap. Anywho, that was before the head, cams, and new motor. So we'll see if I get up to 300 on pump. My goal is 400 on race. But we're running outta time up north here. So for now a street tune is all I plan on doing.

Re: New Motor Built and Going In

210 miles, and nothing has broke yet! Did the first oil change on it. Will change it again after 1000 miles, and then I'll switch over to synthetic and start changing it at regular intervals. I actually went ahead and decided to let her buck a little today and see how she feels at 18psi from a dig, and spun all 4 on the launch which was pretty interesting. I really need to fix my rear camber because I'm sure that's not helping that.

The engine bay doesn't look much different then it used to. Everything that was changed was all internal. Videos, well I was planning on buying a video camera this weekend, but myself and a friend are going in on one now, so we're kinda looking around a lot before we buy one. By the time we get a camera, the car will probably be put into storage for the winter. Hopefully next spring we can get some good videos.

Well actually, I'm getting a pump gas tune tomorrow up at LSE after work, and my regular digital camera takes crappy little videos. So maybe I can snatch a quick crappy video of it on the dyno tomorrow and post it up here.

ju-on 10-30-2006 07:04 PM

Re: New Motor Built and Going In

Well just got back from LSE. Wish I had a video to share with you guys, but the car never got tuned. They got it on the dyno, strapped down, the whole shabang. And that's when they noticed that their wideband took a ----. So nothing got done, and I leave on a work trip tomorrow. So hopefully once I get back, the snow will still be holding off, and I can get this thing freaking tuned before winter hits.

Sounds good :)

Tell me more about that conquest :P

ju-on 11-05-2006 10:21 PM

Re: New Motor Built and Going In

Conquest is pretty much stock. It's not mine. He needed a place to store it for the winter, so I let him use the stall my DD Galant usually is parked. But I'll leave the Galant out in the snow, ---- it.

Also in that in car shot, it was just a quick little race from a 2nd gear roll. I was in the talon, and they were in a 06 Sonata V6, just to give you an idea.
