New flat black hotcoat! Watcha think?

I just talked a local shop into trying this stuff and here are the results...

http://www.newbieforces.com/files/4g64.JPG

IF you look on the flange it looks like it is scratched but that is aluminum off of the key I tried to scratch it with.

Manifold is for a 4g63/4g64

It adds about $60 to the price of a manifold and it is good for 1800 degrees.

that manifold looks good (like with the heat coating) and the welds are ok too...

but being close to equal length... not really working out there.. would this cause any problem with the 1 cylinder having more pipe than the others?

That was one of those "at customer request" kind of things. First he wanted an external wastegate cut in the top but it would not clear the hood. So, rather than build another one, this is what happend. Definatly will flow better than a log manifold, I don't think it will hurt anything.

what type of heat coating is it? is it painted... or powdercoated...

i think it is a good idea. but even a better one might be to use heat wrap on the manifold (unless they are worried about looks).

How many minutes is that paint gauranteed to stay on after you start up the car?

Powdercoated, technically. He had to buy a new gun because it is liquid( I don't get it either, since liquid is not powder :D) but it is cured in the same oven. 200 deg for 2 hours and then 600deg for 3 hours, then it finishes curing on the car. Hopefully we will have one on a car soon to see how it holds up. I have used the Chrome type in the past and this is made by the same people.

::), It is an Aluminum Oxide, silicon mixture. Just like Jet hot coat only it is Black.

i painted my manifold with some 1200 krylon.... that was like 4 bucks...

4 bucks.. or 60... 4 or 60.... come on hmt ;)

i would have to buy more than 10 paint cans (which is like painting it at least 80 times, because its not a big manifold).

if that stuff helps keep in the heat.. cool.. but for looks.. i like the 'krylon touch'

The difference is...yours does not lower underhood temps and your's will come off(maybe). I know the stuff I sprayed on came off in my hand even after I baked it. I have used other stuff that stayed on but it has no thermal properties.

It won't come off of your Muffler, Charge pipes, intercooler, or whatever. I didn't say, "Hey look at this and buy it" Just showin' something I am doing now and thought someone would think it was cool. :'( I'm such a looser.

i've got 1500 deg paint on the header on my car. it's holding up just fine, 2 months now. trust me, it's gotten plenty hot. It's all in the prep. we used paint stripper on it (it had crappy flat black normal paint), then degreased it, cleaned it, dried it, then painted thin coats.

also, if you read the spray can it says u have to cure it in an oven, most people dont im sure and just fire up the car and beat on it. Mine did smell funny for a day or two, but the stink is gone but the paint remains.

I got some of that por15 or por20 stuff (expensive) and coated my HF manifold and it hasn't flaked, chipped, burned or even changed colors for over 1000 miles whatsoever.. It's the best.

and if you have shitty welds...there is always heat wrap
