New engine time for Joe

Well my current NON-BOOSTED Z6 is currently experiencing oil burning problems.

I found a full z6 swap for $300 that I'm picking up next Wed. I have the tranny sold for $100 and the header sold for probably $75, so I'm paying $125 for a d16z6 with 70k on the odometer and a brand new timing belt and water pump.

On to my questions. What can I look for with the motor OUT of the car to see if its got any problems associated with it. I'm gonna remove the valve cover and see whats built up. Is there any way I can do a compression test? Like with a breaker bar attached to the crank pulley? Any other things to check for?

Yes, I plan to blow up the current z6 with boost and yes I will get it on tape. ;D

hook a 12 volt souce up to the starter and crank her over for the compression, do a leak down test too.
