Re: new domestic project (mopar)

well the first plan was to paint it flat black and put in a roll cage , seats and harnesses and just do simple mods to the engine. 4.10 gears spool or locker, shift kit, stall (its an a-904 tranny so it should be ok for a while maybe). for the engine im putting in a mopar cam and lifter set , headers 3inch exhaust with h- pipe and glasspacks. after all of that is done i am going to try mabe a 100 shot wet or just wait for some good deals on some turbo parts. fuel injection is also a good thing i might invest in for the right price, preferably a setup off of an early 90's ram would do. i have never done anything like this myself but i went to auto mechanics school my junior year and learned about v8s quite a bit.

Re: new domestic project (mopar)

The fuel injection method is a really cool idea, however, i have looked into it for my car, same motor and everything and it just isnt worth it. The factory ram and dakota 5.2 and 5.9 fuel injection parts and harnesses get really expensive really fast. I have a buddy who owns a wrecking yard, and i was trying to get the parts through him, and even then it was amazingly expensive, not to mention the stock throttle body doesnt support alot of power with its small injectors. Thats just my two cents. And if you really want to make power thats on demand all the time, without having to fill a bottle all the time, just do the turbo method and be done with it. Otherwise you will have to re-buy parts you already have. Like you will have to ditch your headers if you decide to build a log manifold for your turbo/turbos. I started my project the same way, and I wish someone would have pointed me in the right direction earlier and saved me the time and money. Also will this be solely a track car, or a street car? What do you want it to do? That will greatly determine your path. Well as i said, just my 2 cents. I like the idea of another mopar project on here, i just dont want to see you get frustrated with it later. Best of luck!!!

jegs or summit has cool manifolds, megasquirt has management, ebay has injectors and other items i will need. i havent done much search , im sure theres a low budget combo for the conversion.

Re: new domestic project (mopar)

why do an hpipe, I would do an x pipe instead, sounds better, and gives you more power.

d16turd 10-13-2005 04:56 PM

Re: new domestic project (mopar)

prolly an h-pipe because its easier to make than an x-pipe.

Re: new domestic project (mopar)

For fuel injection on the 318 I saw someone mentioned rams and dakotas but it might be easier to find a mid 80's dodge diplomat or plymouth gran fury or something I used to have an 86 gran fury and it was a fuel injected 318

Re: new domestic project (mopar)

yeah im pretty set on efi for this car, i bet it would make a world of difference. ive seen a few turbo v8s with a carbeurator and they ran good but efi would deffenatley run more efficiently and be more reliable esspecial being turbocharged. ive pondered the turbo 5 liter mustang idea but its been done quite a few times and im really in to dodges and turbo cars at this point in time and i dont like fords much. i saw an efi setup on this guys early 90's ram and thats what gave me the idea to do this in the first place, but for now im just gonna get it running with a carb and see how fast it isnt.

Re: new domestic project (mopar)

If your dead set on an affordable efi setup, i have heard of guys using the ford efi setup on old mopars. It needs some kind of collar adapter for the distributer and maybe something else, but this might be another possible route. I think there was a guy on turbomustangs that did this to his dodge, might want to check it out.
