actually everything you said is wrong. ALL D series engines ONLY have vtec lobes on the intake side of the cam, ALL OF THEM. the differance between vtec and vtec-e is vtec-e runs 12valves (1 intake valve 2 exahust per cylinder) until vtec crossover then the other intake valve operates as the first to give 16valve, DOES NOT LIFT ANY MORE WHEN VTEC CROSSES OVER. the 49 state z1 also uses a wideband o2 and has a LEAN burn mode that can go as lean as 24:1 w/out detonating. couple this to the long gears and a 3.25 final drive and you have a 50mpg daily NOTHING ELSE. 92chp and 98ctq is whats advertised. the vx also uses an EGR valve. and has MANY good traits besides fuel mileage: 9lbs wheels, aluminum a/c compressor mounting bracket, aluminum alternator mounting bracket, and THE LIGHTEST OEM D series flywheel. there is alot more info i could provide, but i doubt anybody cares enough for me to waste my time typing. not to mention i garentee someone is gonna argue with atleast one thing i have said already.

OP: if you care to make it even enjoyable to drive (at most enjoyable) swap the final drive with an ex (4.25). you could swap the whole gearsets and be even better, or do a hybrid gearset with whatever final drive etc, but in my FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE, the only thing worthwhile is swapping gears/final drive, dont do ANY other mods unless you are gonna boost it.
