New car, what to do with it...

Well, I just picked up a '97 EL Premium last week, I like the car, it's loaded leather, power everything, and so on....

But the thing has no ------- balls.... it's just slow as ----, it has DC headers, stock intake with a K&N filter. So incredible with the blistering performance of 130hp and 106 lb's of torque make me cry myself to sleep...while driving... at least it can handle

So my dilemma is, it's my DD and I need it reliable and fully functional. Keeping the AC, and all the acrutements of the acura still. I'm not looking for a road rocket, but something with more torque and reliability. I know this is HMT and a turbo D is pretty easy to accomplish, but running an N/A motor is pretty inticing as well.

In my garage....

For turbo ----
I have a spare fmic from a MX-6
Big ass turbo, FP green frank TD06-17c(prolly go with a IHI or a little dinky one for low end torque)
chipped P28
450's
Stock DSM and Mazda crap for charge lines

For NA
B18A
B20B
B16 tranny with LSD
stock teggy tranny
new clutch

So, HMT give me some insight here, I'm looking for stock A4 performance or a little more, and yes the car is 5 spd.

you have turbo stuff laying around, your posting on a turbo site, and asking if you should go N/A??

Take the advice we gave the guy with the CL. EL...CL... I don't care if it's rebadged civic from acura. Go eat some candy laced with razorblades.

Well, I think we all have random ---- laying around, esp if you've done a few turbo setups for friends. I have never turbo'ed a D, and all I really see is kinda oddball rigs for them. Notching blocks, suzuki pistons and so forth. Also to be honest I'm not too impressed with the output of most blown stock D's. ~160whp andd ~130 lbs of torque for mild setups. I know most of the guys on this site don't have the coin for dyno time so their are quite a few setups that fall in the unknown field, but those are probably realistic #'s.

This is why I'm trying to get some advice on what to do here, those #'s can easily be seen with an LS VTEC or CR VTEC NA, with out a lot of the worries of turboing your motor. But the obvious....your definitely going to miss the snail, the smooth torque, the BOV noises etc etc etc

Sorry, you can hang me if you want! I know giving NA as an option on a turbo forum is blashpemy...

Well, my other car is a built and blown LS VTEC sol. I know it technically doesn't fall under 'sports car' because it's fwd but ---- those ppl, lol.... It's moves fairly well... Thats my play car, it's just this car, well... has to be dropped a grear all the time just to make it up small inclines in the city. It's really ecobox driving, sure it has VTAK and all but up to 3500 rpm it feels like I have a large hamster, maybe a ginuea pig under the hood. :-\

I don't quite get this one, but what ever. It's technically a Honda Domani, not a civic. But I'll let you live for now ;)

you can swap a H22 and get those numbers stock, im not saying turboing a D is the best thing since sliced bread, but my turbo D is almost as fast as my H22 EG was and im happy with it

my point was though that your asking a turbo site weither you should turbo or not.. ---- turbo the B if your not impressed with a turbo D

i missed the feel of boost, the bov sound, and all those other misc small things as well that any turbo owner knows and loves which is why i went back to boost and from now on any car i own no matter what it is, i will find a way to turbo it :6

i've been trying to convince my mom to let me turbo her 01 buick century but she wont let me :3 i will one dark and stormy night though ;D

btw whats this about suzuki pistons? ???

True about the H22 swap, but I honestly like the feel of the D and B linkages over the H cable system. I know about the H2B kit but hood clearance is a big issue, and EL parts in the aftermarket are few and far between.

I think I may turbo it, you kinda convinced me. The BOV on my sol always makes me smile....

Suzuki Vitara pistons are forged and fit a D, just search for vitara pistons. It's all over here and H-T

put one of the b's in it, that should give it decent power for gettign around and keep it as reliable as it is right now.
