At autozone you can leave a deposit and they lend you a scanner. Just make sure you put the receipt in your glove box and don't touch it or look at it so it don't get lost til the day you return the scanner, otherwise you're gonna end up with a $175. autozone credit.

Re:New car now check light

ive had this same problem on my 90 dx hatch. what i used to do is soft reset the ecu, while driving when the light comes on. you can just turn the engine off then back on really quick (dont lock your steering wheel). this resets the ecu and makes the check light go away for a while. what i later found out is that my fuel pump was assed out and there was some sort of electrical problem that caused it not to send fuel to the injectors at random times. its likely that your fuel pump is going out too if you have starting issues, usually after idling or first starts. the way to bypass that issue is you have to rev the engine above 5000rpms and turn off the ignition, and thats it to making start up again with no problems.

There is a light that blinks on your ECU on obd0 when you turn the ignition to the "ON" position.

Count the number of times it blinks

Re:New car now check light

why dont you do it the easy way and count how many times the LED on ur ecu blinks and then go to hondaswap.com and see which CEL your car is throwing

Re:New car now check light

resolder your MAIN RELAY points, cheap and easy to fix, will fix the hard starts and make sure you have clean battery and chassis grounds everywhere.

my o2 sensor is bad and light will come on after it's been warming up AND the car isn't just idling, but during driving. you might wanna check that out.

yeah you don't need a scanner, this isn't ford.

since when is a 91 obd1, stock?

Re:New car now check light

lol, it will pause inbetween codes, so count them in series

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

That would be a code 6 & 4

Wow, you were considering throwing a turbo on the car this weekend but you have no clue how to pull a CEL code.. think you need to rethink this ---- thru man.

I'm not trying to be a dick, just pointing out the obvious. Pulling codes on OBD0 is the first damn thing I learned about hondas.

yep, like how people jump on here talking about doing 'this and that'; then they say something so stupid.... you're like wait... wait... what?!

ok.... i think he's had enough..... we don't want him going to a different board cause he's getting flamed.... SOL do some reading... ask some questions... and do all the work yourself!
good luck......

I wasn't flaming the guy, I was just telling him to start slow. I think if I started flaming all the newbies then my position as moderator wouldn't last.

We all had to start somewhere, learning how to work pulling CEL codes is a good place, the car will tell you what's wrong with it.. next you have to figure out how to replace whatever is wrong with the stupid thing.
