New car ... American Muscle

just brought home my new 1973 nova. Theres some rust but not bad. Needs all the fluids changed, wipers, shocks and rear bushings . Paid 900 so it was a steal . For now its a bored 305 BORED out to NOT 350 and auto trans . Got a nice edlebrock 650 and aluminum intake mani . Thats getting pulled for a 358 and a M-22 4 speed. I'll post some pics tommrow .

You dumbasses calm down, he said the bitch is drilled out!

Re: New car ... American Muscle

305
Production: 1976–1992
Displacement: 305 in³ (5.0 L)
Power: 130–250 hp (97–186 kW)
Bore and Stroke: 3.740" x 3.48"

350
Production: 1968–2002 (production ceased in 2002 for USA production only; still manufactured in Mexico for GM's Goodwrench Replacement Engines)
Displacement: 350 in³ (5.7 L)
Power: 145–370 hp (108–276 kW)
Bore and Stroke: 4.000" x 3.48"

i suppose its possible, but you'd be a dumbass to pay the $ to bore out a block that has thinner cyl walls to begin with rather than just getting a ------- 350 block and be done with it.

Smith-02 02-11-2007 07:47 PM

Re: New car ... American Muscle

blocks have nothing to do with bores and structural integrity. 383 = stroked 350, just get a 400 and be done with it.

My next priority is finding a m-22 for it . No auto for me .

EDIT - I just talked to the Original owner and he told me it was rebuilt with a .30 overbore

I don't know if that can clearthings up but just out of curiosity what does that make it then ?

it's not the orig motor. 305's werent avail until what, '76?

your car is a '73. someones bullshitting you somewhere. a bore cleaned 305 .02 over is a 307 iirc.

not THE 307, but 307 cid.

307 does not = 350. you'd need a .125 over-bore to get there...

and taking that much off of a cyl wall, you're asking for trouble.

Just throw a beefy cam, and a hmt setup on the 305, those are cool cars but american muscle lost its soul after the 60's

I'd say $900 is a steal guys, these things in shitty but running condition go for 2500 or so in these parts.

Lets see some pics. :)

I love good deals but I'm a cheapskate too, should've sold it to the guy. $1400 profit for doing squat rocks.

Right now it's using a edelbrock 650 which is way to big for the 305 so it blows nuts . I'd rather keep the orignial block anyway , the 283's were tough ass blocks.

uh, .30 over on a 283 would be a 286 at best. .60 over would make it something around a 288.

you're full of ---- faggot, math owns your ass.

came stock as a 350.

then you claim its a 305 bored to 350

now its a 283 bored to 305.

pretty soon it's gonna be a 345 de-stroked to 327, bored out to 383.

Why nitpick the displacement? Its a classic car with a big eight cylinder motor, hooray. So long as its getting turbo'd.

Uh, no they are not. They are cut a a shallower angle, but not straight. :1 Used to know how many degrees the M22 was cut at versus the other Muncies, but can't remember off the top of my head.

Point is i don't care enough to really look. it's comming out regardless . Now why don't you ---- off and go back to playing hide the pickle with your big black boyfriend. I figured one or two people could appreciate something none honda.

The point is that you need to learn a lot more about SBC's and take good info when it comes to you. If you knew what you were looking at, then having a 305 bored out to a 350 would not make any sense.

287.437 CID with .030" overbore if it's a 283 block.

Nice purchase. You got a steal. I'm in for pics.

That's a lot of work for nothing, just go with the 383 and a T5 or T56. 383+T56+EFI+HMT+slicks+posi 12 bolt (or Ford 9")+4.10 gear= damn fast

Compared to prices around here I'd say it was a good deal for $900.
