Need your help again (motor)
700kms on my rebuilt LS with eagle rods, probe industries forged pistons (8.7:1), new bearings, vtec oil pump, rings, etc...etc..
When the car is cold or I let it sit for a long time, and try to start it, the engine starts but the oil light stays on for a second or so then it shuts off. All my other friends cars don't do that. But when it's warm, or i've had it running, shut it off then start it again, the oil light shuts off immidiately after I start the motor.
Now the whole reason for rebuilding the motor was because I spun all the bearings from running it low on oil when that relief valve jammed (just like it did for Jeff), and I don't want to have to rebuild this thing again over something stupid. Motor is n/a right now, and this whole oil situation is pissing me off. I'm ready to throw this motor in the garbage. The oil level is fine, matter of fact I just changed the oil a day ago. My oil return line fitting is leaking a bit (stealthmode ) but I don't think that little air leak would have anything to do with the oil pump not building pressure for a second? Also, running 10w30 oil, I know I should be running 5w30, maybe the oil is too thick when it's cold?
HELP!!
Stan
PS: 300km more and the break in is over and i'll put the turbo back on this biatch and post some videos.

Re:Need your help again (motor)
I don't have a pressure gauge, but i'm getting one. It's odd though, only does it on cold start, but never when the motor is warm? It's like the oil is draining out of all the passages and the pump has to push it all back through before it trips the oil switch... or the oil is too thick on cold start? I'm scared, I just don't want to wreck another motor.. if that happens, i'm gonna boost the living hell out of a d series and junk this LS.

Re:Need your help again (motor)
what weight oil are you using? what are the outside temps?
my beater car does that (1994 cavalier).
90% of the time the oil light takes 1 second to turn off, once in a while though, it goes right out. using 10w30 oil..+28 out(in celcius).

Re:Need your help again (motor)
I still can't figure this out. It seems like it's draining the oil over night and has to repump it when I start it up. Sometimes cheap oil filters do that, but I'm running a Honda filter, and this is the 2nd oil change/filter i've done since we put the motor back together.
On a better note, we adjusted the valves, the motor is quiet and no longer sounds like a bag of ----.
On the down side, running stock 240's for a the break in period of the motor and stock ecu, the thing is still super rich.. is this just the compression that messed it up?
