Your wheel offset is why your tires were rubbing.

Stock honda steel wheels are 14 x 5 so if you go out and buy 17 x 7 wheels the tires will obviously stick out further because the wheels are wider. Tire size doesn't really have anything to do with it. I am not really sure exactly what wheel offset you will need.

Here is a link that might help you out... http://importnut.net/wheelinfo.htm

i got a 98 civic, and i went from 14's to 17x7. my car was lowered befor i got these rims, and my other rims didnt rub. there is only like 1/8 inch difference between the 2 and my new ones rubb even with my car raised up like 1 1/2 inches more than what it was. so now i have to go and get stiffer struts cause my suspension is too soft. so make sure your rims fit and dont rub befor you go buy them,

do the plus sizing..

starting size = 185R60/14
plus 1 = 195r50/15
plus 2 = 205r40/16
plus 3 = SHOW NO GO.
I just put 16in on my crx 88si, trust me, more then large enough.

make sure you match the same diameter of the new wheels/tires to the old ones.

the stock diameter on my crx was around 22.3in. the 205-40-16 i put on are 22.6 i think, so they fit fine.. no rubbing yet. (only 2 days on there tho)
