motorex is a complete ------- when it comes to leagalizing something thats already in the states. Put it to you this way, they probably pay in the area of 10g's for the GTR, unregistered, no JCI from japan. They make you pay for there knowledge. Wreck a car...you only gotta wreck one to find out the insurance aspects of it. the info carries from car to car. especially when they are only selling GTR's.
I would do, and I plan on doing, like someone else mentioned, take the tags/vins off of a 240 and weld it to the skyline. its pretty much your only hope. I plan on doing it with my civic when I go back.
Why didnt your buddy think about this before he come from japan? Dam, im not schedualed to leave here until 2008, probably wont leave till 2009 and im already thinking about what its going to take to get it home.

If you try to do it legally, it's going to be more hassle than it's worth. I believe you can do it if you have a dealers license and you can find a loophole in the system in order to have it at least temp registered. Talk to a car dealer if you know one.
SP Engineering has one that I would assume is registered, because they were dragging it at Fontana street legals where you need reg and insurance to race. It was pretty shitty when they crashed it, lol, but it had CA plates. Call them up and see if they'll give you info.
Can't remember if you said anything about the military, but I believe the miltary can have one car or something something. Ask Frank, he's JDM and Sempr Fi

the military will bring it to a port on the west coast (either in LA or in WA) from japan but wont pay to take it through customs or any of that. bacially they take it there and say here, its your problem. If its registered as a "track car only" you can get away with it pretty cheap from what I understand. track car only meaning just that.
stealth....ive heard of some people taking JDM cars back just to do promotions.

a skyline GTR also has a ---- load more options than a LX 5.0. the suspension and brakes is probably half of what your entire car costs retail, new. Sure its slow in the straight line, but im 99% sure they didnt build that car to just go straight.

u can say its a rebuilt salvage 240.. but they might ask you wat was wrong with it before and wat parts you changed to fix it and may ask for the recites for the parts u changed....
thats wat i go through.
usually i go in with a lil bit of damage (broken headlight/ messed up fender..) and say thats all, that was damaged..
they just check the vin # around the car thats all... ask you what options the cars has.. power windows, door locks etc..
but this is all in WA..

there is no doubt the GTR skyline has nicer interior than a foxbody LX its not like they have awesome interiors...
this is r32, interior looks like any other car ive ever seen... corvettes of the day have nicer interiors than these....
