Default need some HDTV help..

ok so my buddie let me borrow his 61 inch HDTV Rca Scenium TV. i have comcast regular cable(every single channel though).. but the tv has some lines going down to up on the screen. kinda annaoying, i do not have a HDTV box, think this could be the problem?
i'm only using 1 rca for the video source.. while his HDTV box used 3 rca's just for the video alone, not even including audio.. but i'm not worried about the audio cause i have a surround sound set-up.
i'm so bored and pist i'm driving back out to his house and taking his HDTV box.. ---- it, probly wont work cause its only set-up for his address but who cares..

any info with anyone running a HDTV and regular cable let me know.. i'll be back in an hour

if you guys need some pictures of the back of the tv, my cable box, his cable box, and the wires let me know.. k be back

there better be someone with teh answer when i return.. or i'm locking every post

well first off, hdtv or not, if you dont have hd channels then your fubared. unless you have a hd dvd player or blu-ray player then your good. regardless if you have a hdtv your regular cable will work as long as you have the plugs in correctly. ie, have standard cable hooked up by red/white/yellow. not red/green/blue/white/red(HD).

Let's see the back. There are usually two or three ways you can hook it up. You said you where using the RCA (yellow) connectors? Make sure the cable isn't cheap/ damaged, and it isn't close to any power cables. It's an analog signal, and picks up noise sometimes.

If you can use coax, use it. it will work better with a SDTV box. You may find that the picture just looks crappy no matter what. It looks fine on a 25", but when you double it, it looks grainy, and noisy.

i just got a 42" plasma. I hooked up the cable to the back of the tv (no cable box) and rescanned the channels. I got like 13 HD channels straight from the cable. Also reg channels should not have lines going through it..

You will need a subscription for HD channels to get HD quality video. Also, you MUST use something other than RCA for HD video

RCA - 480i, the entire video signal is sent through one cord, yuck
Component - 480p, 1080i, 720p, 1080p (only on some sony models), one of the best connections, separates the picture by it's color components (hence the name) so is much crisper, it's the one with red/blue/green/red/white cables
HDMI - looks kinda like a computer type connections, best quality, digital signal, and signal is broken up into more components so less interference and much better quality
DVI/VGA - same connections comp monitors use, VGA is analog but still pretty clear, DVI-D is digital and very nice!

You will need digital channels first and foremost. Our cable company doesn't use cable boxes, you just plug the cord in and go to the digital channels. Sounds like you use cable boxes, so yes you'll need an HD box. Finally, you'll need an HD capable cable (component, HDMI, DVI/VGA). The tv should automatically adjust to HD resolutions based on the signal but I've seen TVs where you have to set it manually.
