NEED QUICK ADVICE for the 180SD, please look

Ok, this is for the guys that do stuff on the side for people, wether it be just IC piping, downpipes, exhaust etc. If all you have is a TIG welder, is it a PITA? I can see trying to tack weld a downpipe and having to try and do it in the car with the foot control of the 180SD while you are lying on your back...might be a problem. I guess Ideally you would have both..tack with mig weld with tig? Or how about just getting a good MIG instead...not a $100 harbor freight but a $1000 miller or something? the only thing then is no turbo manifolds and no aluminum. Too many damn decisions. :( I was set on buying the 180SD but now I'm second guessing myself. Any thoughts? P.S. for now this will only be part time, as I have a full time job. so whatever I can fit in nights and weekends, build ---- and sell on online etc. with hopes to one day do this full time. |
Re: Starting own shop/fab work, do I really need a TIG?
well.... for a part time thing... you can MIG aluminum. Just need the right gas and wire. I say a good MIG will be plenty for now.... and maybe later on get a TIG. Them bitches are $$$$.

Re: Starting own shop/fab work, do I really need a TIG?
tig. if you are worried about using the pedal under the car, get a torch with a thumb wheel control- no pedal required.

Yes you can mig aluminum but if you want to do charge pipes, intercoolers or anyhthing that seals, mig wont do. It's hard to lay a constant bead and temp without blowing through.

Ok, so I have 2 options now, I'm buying the 180SD for sure. From the same place, here are my options: -$1950 + 7% tax ($2086 CDN), cash, with receipt -$1800 CDN, cash, no receipt The only issues are warranty..might be a bit iffy with no receipt, but will I need warranty in 2 years? And also I can't write it off with no receipt but I can "estimate it's value" for my Assets so it might be ok. Even still you only write off a certain % per year. |
Re: NEED QUICK ADVICE for the 180SD, please look
i would go with teh reciept, if it takes a ---- on you and you dont have a reciept, you'll be forking over another $2k
but then again, it could last you forever |
Re: NEED QUICK ADVICE for the 180SD, please look
Yeah, I don't know, tough call, the thought of saving $286 makes me want to take the no bill deal.
i can buy my welding helmet, electrodes, filler, gas tank and fill and more with the money I save doing that.... |

I would go with the receipt, first you get a warranty, and second, the CRA auditors always like you better if you have receipts |

True.
Fack, damn $286. Wish this wasn't costing me all of my money already then I wouldn't care so much. |
