Need ideas to immobilize a running car. But it still be driveable by me.
 

Hey heres the deal. Im looking for some ideas and you guys are the ghetto ones to come to. :)

Its a 94 Civic 5spd.
I need to be able to leave the car running and if someone tries to drive off in it it needs to shut down.
BUT I still need to be able to get it from point A to point B on its own power (no towing it there).

The method cannot be very "invasive" meaning I cannot go in and start chopping a ton of wires. I could T onto a few wires though but nothing permanant and it has to leave little tracks of me messing with it.

Oh and its got to be CHEAP (the motto of HMT). I know I could go and spend a bunch of $$ on fancy ---- but thats not a realistic option. Needs to be cheap ---- I could pick up at Radio Shack if need be.

I was thinking of just unhooking the throttle cable once I got it in place, but if I dont have to open the hood even better. Would ideally just like to drive up, flip a switch and walk off.

Hook a kill switch to the fuel pump that is actuated by the throttle.

thats easy, just put a turbo timer on it, get one that is wired to the e brake, so if someone jumps in and drops the e brake the car will turn off

or you could have a switch to the fuel pump, flipped the switch off so the pump wont turn on, it may run for a min w/o the pump turning... dunno thou

LOL trying to setup a bait car huh >:D

hook up a relay to your e-brake. set it up the way when ebrake is down realy cuts off power to the distubutor or fuel pump. use a double pole swith (hidden, of course)to bypass the relay when you need to drive it on ur own. It could be a problem IF he didn`t release the e-brake all the way down.

use the same idea on the thottle should work without any problem. mount a normally CLOSED press button mircoswitch next to the thottle cable wheel thing on the thottle body, use a relay, hook it up to whatever pump or dizzy, when the thottle is pressed switch goes open and cut the power.

or use a 555 timer circuit with pump/dizzy relay. use the dome like switch to activaite the timer.

or disconnect thottle cable, use gun point , how HMT

just get a remote start, you take the keys, it stays running until someone hits the brakes, unless the keys are back in

make it so you can keep the car running all day and when someone gets in it and tries to take off it locks the doors and the alarm goes on that would be some scary ----.

There are a bunch of good ideas but some are gonna cost me $$$ (turbo timer, and remote device) and if its more than a few bucks then screw that. :) Im not spending my cash if its not my car (and im not gonna get $$ from "The Man").

I cant ---- with the car too much because Im not supposed to be screwing with it (dont tell). Its just that we want it to do what I mentioned and it doesnt right now (and it never will unless I do it).

Put a nail or two infront and behind each tire.

Only you will know they're there unless the thief checks. If you want to move the car, you pick up the nails.

Cheap? Go grab some steelies from the junkyard with garbage tires.

park it next to a pole, and run a chain around the lca to a pole. :y

Turbo Timer with custom time sets that (like mentioned) is connected to the ebrake. i didn't even chop my starter wires, just used some male connectors and stuffed em into the lil holes where the wires go into the plug. i love how people look at my funny when i walk away and hit the alarm with the car running :6

Remote Start. im hoping to get one of these. its easiest to just get one thats in an alarm system. just go buy one and install it yourself. only took me 2 days of autoshop (about 2-3 hrs) to get'r done.

Disconnect the shift linkage, who the ---- would check that...

Only other idea I thought of real quick would be get a shitty RC car and use one of the servo's to push a button from a remote place. You watch them get it, push a button on the controller and it flips a kill switch

Awesome Ideas! I would deffinately look into the fuel pump kill, most likely your cheapest and simplest option. This may be a stupid question.... but why are you making a bait car again???

rig up a device behind the seat that holds a gun loaded ready to go; and make a system of levers that will pull the trigger when someone sits in the seat. but put a saftey pin in it that only you know about so you can drive the car. The whole mechanism could fit in a shoe box behind the seat and no one would be the wiser.
I'm sure that would get peoples attention if someone were to jump on in and would make the jumpers think twice about doing it again :D

/edit: or more realistically you could set up a switch wired to a 555 timer cuirciut that when NOT switched it would let the car run for say 15 seconds and after that 15 seconds fire off a loud ass siren. But if the switch WAS flipped the car would run normally. You could hide the switch in the glove box; or maybe have it remotely operated. I know wal-mart sells some ricer-riffic remote fog light bullshits that would work perfect for arming such a device. It's basically a remote controlled relay. you get out of the car hit the button "arm" the system and if a thief comes along he has no idea you did anything"

That would cost probably at max $50 for a pre-made timer type cuirciut and all the other ----

Flip a switch, and tie VSS to IGO. Instant erratic ignition fuckage upon vehicle movement.

Ignition Output Signal right? Just have a switch that crosses that and the VSS and it will be undriveable?

Maybe.

VSS is 5v signal, and I'm pretty sure IGO is 12v (power sent to the ignitor turns it off, ground makes it charge the coil). You might have to use a schmidt trigger to turn the 5v to 12v, and some diodes to keep power from feeding the wrong direction.
