Need help with a speech
Ok so for one of my classes here at PSU I have to give a speech that proposes a new policy. I already talked about gas prices in my first speech and for my policy speech I want to propose that every car should be produced with a turbo engine.
Basically I want to talk about how turbo's are efficient, fuel efficient, and they add power which solves the struggle between having a powerful engine but at the same token not losing that much gas mileage. Any other good arguments?
Any contributions/sources would be great. Help a brother out here.

think horsepower/weight ratio. your car weighs X and your HP output is (for example) 100. With a turbo, your HP output is ~150(again for example). 150hp can move X more easily than 100hp. In that reguard it would be more fuel efficient. variables such as raping the throttle and actuall increased fuel consumption play a role. look at the wv jetta tdi. effecient with no *****.

Re: Need help with a speech
I had to write a persuasive speech for my comm class, we had to have 7 sources of information, only 3 of which could be from the internet, I don't think you could write that kind of speech on this topic, I wrote mine on hybrid cars. if your speech doesn't require much evidence you can go with your higher output theory, if not basically you're fucked. check out eia.doe.gov for alot more information than you know what to do with. it's hard as ---- to find the info you're looking for, but if you can find the tables that show that fuel efficiency of vehicles has been increasing over the years, and that the percentage of new cars being produced with a turbo or supercharger has increased as well then you might be able to get away with associating them.

I threw away the report that I turned in or else I would give you my bibliography. fueleconomy.gov will probably be a good site to reference as well as eia.doe.gov the print sources that I refereneced were articles in automotive engineering international that I found at the university library.

PSU = Penn State University?
Where do you live at? Are you going to the main campus?
It's TOTALLY different driving a boosted car compared to N/A. I drive the mountain every weekend for work and I try to stay economical when I can and stay out of boost. However, even downshifting to 4th I'm still boosting on and off up to 5lbs. I guess it's a learning curve/expierence I'll have to figure out. My gas guage does some goofy stuff now too. It'll be like full tank, get on it a little down to 3/4 then slowly after a little time creep to full again. My Dad saw it and was like "WHOA! Pull over, we're losing gas!" LOL. It's kinda gay though. I guess I go by the tripometer now.
CAN turbo be fuel efficent in some cases like mine where boost helps lessen the load on the engine when taking the mountain? Please respond. I'm curious about this fuel efficency thing now.
