Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

Did you bleed all the brakes? If not, there you go. You have air somewhere in the system.

how would air even get into the brakes

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

Well you said you put front brakes on, meaning just pads right? Air can only get in the system if you open it somewhere, which you don't when just compressing the piston and putting pads on. Are you saying that right after you put the pads on the pedal went to the floor?

Well you said you bled the brakes so you did open it some time. Good luck on the other bleeders I know for a fact they can be bitches.

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

Hey guys, this is the owner of the 93 civic......Spoonfed went to bed, so I thought I would answer the main question. What we did was simply replace the old rotors that were on my car with a better set from my friend. After the rotors were installed, I hopped into the car and pumped the brakes a couple of times to make sure they worked (remembered having to do it for my motorcycle). After that, I started driving down the street, thinking the brakes would be fine and BAM, they weren't. We took a couple of spins around the block slamming on the brakes every couple of seconds, but nothing improved. When we got back to the house, I spent another 5-10 min. pumping the brakes, but nothing improved. The brakes hold pressure when the car is off, but when it's running, there is none. The two front brakes had not air in them at all, and the rears......well, spoonfed had a couple of issues with those and we haven't been able to test them.

Sorry for the long post..........I am bored and thought I would tell a story :)

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

I really don't know how air got in the system originally, but you should rebleed them starting with the rears. You want to work your way from the farthest wheel from the master cylinder to the closest to make sure all the air is out. If you do it properly your brakes should work. The only other think I can think of is one of your brake hoses is getting old and starting to expand, maybe you guys iritated it when you removed one of the calipers. Check those for any cracks too.

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

thanks for the ideas. Do you know if you can just buy a new bleeder screw from the dealer? The drivers side rear isn't working and it's spitting out fluid. Also, we can't get the passenger side rear bleeder screw out........woudl it be cheaper/easier to buy a new piston assembly with a new bleeder valve on it? I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I want this problem solved. Dammit, I could be at home having sex tonight, but now I am sleeping on Spoonfed's couch :(

the junkyard is your friend

I think you can get a new bleeder screw, but I've always just replaced the whole wheel cylinder. Did you strip it or somethin? And about the passenger side rear, soak the ---- out of it with some PB blaster or WD-40 and keep trying. You don't have to get a new wheel cylinder unless it's leaking or you break the bleeder.

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

well, the drivers side bleeder screw is totally messed.......we tightened the ---- out of it and it still pukes out fluid, so I have no idea what's wrong with it. The passenger side is seized right up, we tried a couple of things but it won't budge, and we don't want to strip it.

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

Keep tryin until its stripped or broken. You might end up having to get 2 new wheel cylinders. They really aren't that expensive and you'll feel better knowing you won't have to worry about them for a while.

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

Ya, I agree.....I just want everything to work properly. It's just frustrating because I have dumped a bunch of money into the car in the last week to get the car up to par for my girlfriend to use while I am away with work. I obviously want a safe car too, but the women needs the peice of mind :D

I just read a reply on another post that I made about this......what's eveyones option on it being the check valve (inside the brake booster)? Also, anyone have an idea of where it is or how to check it?

Re:NEED HELP QUICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ASAP!!!!!!!!!

bleeder screws are plentiful; they're hanging with the "Help" items (misc little parts) in your local auto parts store.
