Default need help fast

I got a '89 civic hatch dx and my little d series's head gasket finally took a s$$t the other day. Not sure of damage though. I'm looking for some speed shops near me.I live in annapolis md. I'm seriously considering droppng a b16 in her now if the prices aren't to high. Tempest gave me a quote($4150) for the entire thing including parts and labor. The labor alone was $1500. I think that's a little too much. Future plans are turboed 11sec daily driver. I'm figuring 18psi at the track but 'bout 10 on the street. What would be the best company to get pistons, rods and the like for this set up. I want the rev limit at or near 9500 for a more linier boost curve going down the 1320. I'd like to get the pistons and rods in before the swap is done. I can do the cams and springs myself when I finially go boosted. I know that the fuel system needs upgrading but I'm not sure about the flow rate for a new fuel pump. Any ideas. And also thanks in advance.

To run that much boost, your going to spend alot more than 4150.

Give you a quick idea,

So basically you want info on how to make a B-series last at 18psi?

1. Sleeves (AEBS/Golden Eagle/RS mach/Darton) make sleeves
2. Pistons (Wiseco/J.E/SRP/Arias/KB/Endyn) c/r 9.0 - 10.0
3. Rods (Crower/Eagle/KB/Full-Race/or even stock)
4. Management (AEM EMS/Hondata/Zdyne/Motec/Accel DFI/Speedpro/Haltech/or DIY GD/Turboedit)
5. Turbo (T3/T4 any spec, the larger the better)
6. Intercooler (Tyrus IC/Customcoach/Greddy/Whatever any IC)
7. Manifold (Custom/Sparks Racing/Rev Hard/Full Race anything)
8. Wastegate External (Tial/Delta/Innovative/HKS/Greddy) 35-45mm
9. Injectors (450cc's and UP!)
10. IC Piping / DP (custom 2 1/2 and up!)
11. Clutch (6puk disc Sprung hub/Race disc ACT/CM/Action/CS/Tilton)
12. LSD (Kaaz/Quaife/Factory) or cheapies (Twin Trac/PhantomGrip)
13. To rev that high, your going to need a good valve train, Crower/Ferra/Portflow/skunk2/Jun/ springs/retainers and some cams that make power that high.
14. and lots and lots of tuning!

Well, I hope that gave you a quick idea, your looking about 5-7000 bucks for everything if not more not including install.

It doesnt happen overnight to get a 11sec daily driver and make it last, its taking me several years of slow and slow progress and I am almost there

good luck,
Jeff

AbaZ, thanks for the fast reply. this entire build up is over several yrs. Probably not turbo'ed for a least a year. Basiclly I just need a b16 swap at a decent price for right now. >89 factory hp and next to no torque is murder on 695. you marylanders know what I mean. The sooner I can get some prices on a complete change over the better. Is around $4150 normal for this swap. I miss my Honda and it kinda sucks relying on my parents to get me to school and all. and good luck wit your ride

dude, that is hella lot of loot! i did my first engine swap with basic car knowledge, before the swap, the most serious thing i had done was changed a header, i'm being serious! get a manual for you car and it will explain egine removal, installation, if you get a d series (y8, or z6), it will be a lot easier because for a b series, you will need different mounts, shift linkage, axles. if you don't think you could do it, i don't know what to tell you, i can't afford to fork out over 4g's for a b16 when the whole swap only cost 1000-1300 bucks i would research and ask some questions for a while and maybe save yourself a couple thousand bucks. before i started my first swap, i was intimidate by all the wires and hoses and ---- in the engine bay, but it's really simple you have two radiator hoses, two heater hoses, power steering line, throttle cable, clutch cable, and unhook the harness from the car and undo some bolts and you're good to go, just my .02

Listen to projekteg, DIY, enigne install is actually pretty easy, and is really the stepping stone to all kinds of engine knowledge. Like projek, I had little to NO knowledge before I did mine, now Im setting stopwatches to time rebuilding an engine.

Swapping that engine made me realize that cars were never designed to be "difficult" to work on, if BoBo at the local wrench a tard shop can replace a couple of pistons in 3 days, what do you think a person of avarage intellegence can do?

Boosting a car that much is going to almost nesesitate some basic engine knowledge. As MANY things will break before you get there (yes accept that these things will happen) and you need to identify these problems before they happen, also you will be better equiped to judge the workmanship of a shop.

I would do the swap myself. I've helped take out a v6 out of a toyota tundra and I've rebuilt motors before. I enjoy doing it. The problem is is that I don't have the room or storeage area for an engine and I don't have some of the necessary tools like an engine hoist and things like that. I would do it if I had these things. I agree rebuildig and installing the motor teaches you a lot. Hell, if I had my own house half the garage would be full of tools for jobs like these. Peace.
BTW the b16 comes with all sensors, every thing needed to make 100%startup, but needs conversion wiring harness, and motor mounts and a/c bracket. I don't currently have p/s.

ok.. 4150 is a rip off.. In Canada I can get an entire b16 swap installed to the point i drop it off, pick it up turn the key and drive for $2500.

a complete b16 w/ motor, tranny, ecu, axles, and engine harness should only run u $1500 TOPS. they want how much if u said labour was $1500 !! try another shop.
