Need AN fittings help

I need to order fittings but space is limited. What I need is a 12x1.25 banjo fitting:

And a 90* 3/8 pipe fitting

http://www.anplumbing.com/shop/images/767829010.jpg

I was going to connect them with -6 hose. Now the problem is space. Here's what I'm working with:

I'm worried about the length of the fittings. As you can see I have about 3 inches of space. If I use very little hose can I still make the connections? The problem is I don't know how bulky these connectors are.

Thanks douchebags.

;)

Hey whitey, can you just weld one fitting on to either the rail or the other piece to make things easier? You definately dont have enough space for two connectors pointing toward one another. What are you working on anyways?

How long are the connectors though?

If you have room you can loop the line, like in a half moon shape, better flow cheaper, and easier to work with. If you don't have the room. Tube nuts and sleeves are your friend.

The way its setup now is its looped. The room just isn't available and it would be better if it could just be one straight shot to the rail.

Any way to put fuel filter before fuel pump, and bypass the that nasty knot between filter and rail?

I figure the answer is no, but am gambling on the off chance you're stuck on that configuration since you bouht the parts for it.

Youd be looking at a little over 4 inches just from the fittings, so that wont work. Just face them both outward and run the half moon shaped line that way. Either that or make a JB weld tunnel ::)

Re: Need AN fittings help

By the way, what filter is that???

I will measure a few fittings at work in the AM and let you know. I don't have the exact fittings but I do have some -6 stuff to look at and measure.

Randy
PS tight spots suck when working with AN

You can also get straight and 90 and 45 metric male to male fittings. Banjo=----!!!

I have a pre-strainer before the pump and if the filter ever does get clogged I'd rather not burn up the pump.

Its an Accel filter. And I think I'm going to go with this type of combo:

If you could get a length on that it would be good.

5/16" aperature is going to have, at my best guess, 9/16" drive female to account for wall thickness/threads of the male part and then the needed thickness of the female portion. That makes the female-female adapter easily 2" long.

Lemme google and see if I can get some exact Earl's Fittings dimensions for you, and you can get medieval with the old tape measure.

Glad to see the project coming along, btw.

Re: Need AN fittings help

Alright, I'm not finding documentation on Earl's Fittings like I hoped to.

Let me hijack you for a minute... go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ and type "fittings" in the search box on the left. No need to even click anything, it dynamically searches. Look down under the search box for 37 degree fittings - these are AN. You can pull up exact technical schematics/dimensions for them. See if you can't sort out what you need from McMaster, although the finish probably won't be as bling as Earl's stuffs.

BTW, -6 is 3/8" ID, that's a pretty hefty fuel feed. You really thinking of making 600 on the old Banshee? You might save room scaling down a size, it's not going to hurt anything to run -4 on that contraption.

I'm back off to find Earl's infos now. Toodles.

Reddy 12-12-2006 12:53 AM

Re: Need AN fittings help

Thanks for the help. The entire feed is done in 3/8. Yeah its overkill but it might be good when I ditch this ----- gas ---- and run alchohol.

hehe.

I'm announcing failure on the exact specs. Earl's homepage is http://www.earls.co.uk/earls/index.html but exact specs are not listed. I'd call them, or better yet Summit, and talk to a real live person. I dunno exactly how either place is setup, but their phone call center might be set up adjacent to the warehouse and you might be able to talk to someone who can measure this ---- for you.

I'm still a big fan of ganking two OEM Honduh banjos and brazing stainless hardline into them - if you look closely I think that is how the OEM banjo head is fit on from the factory. Counterdrill the orifices in the banjo heads to the tube slips right in and it should braze neatly. It'll be shitty getting such a short piece of hard tube bent, and you'll have to get a banjo bolt to go in the fuel filter, but it seems far and away the petitest way to make everything fit together.

I would do that but the brazing doess scare me with the vibration of the bike. I really want the thing to be reliable (thats why its taking me forever) and with the abuse I put it through I'm willing to spend the money for the piece of mind.

I'm going to call Summit tomorrow and see what they can do.

Thanks.

I didn't have anything that usefull. But I took a few pictures of what I had around. All I ever use -6 for is power steering coolers. TFE fittings are smaller and handle more pressure. I will order some in the AM and take more pictures if you would like.

Thanks for the help. I ordered fittings today, I'm using 2 90*'s and a coupling. They should be here Friday. Apparently they are 2.950" center to center so that would be perfect. I guess we'll see Friday if they work

Watch to make sure something gives a little. If something doesn't move=something breaks.

The fuel filter will be mounted to the fuel rail. I'll post pics when its done but I think it'll be fine.

Well fitting got here today and of course when you pay $20.00 in shipping on $29.00 worth of parts becuase your in a hurry they of course aren't going to be the right ones ::) The fitting for the fuel filter is wrong but I can probably find it locally. What a pain in the ass. ::) But at least they do fit nice.
