NE HMT paint day?
 

I am going to learn how to paint. My buddy used to a painter so he is going to help me out. I just bought 2 HVLP spray guns this weekend. One for primer and one for paint. Once I paint my car with good results we can paint all the North East buckets if you guys want. Post up if you are interested. And yes Hotrex we can paint the rest of your car PLUM PURPLE to match the nose! :-*

Bah paint is cheap. Not going for glass like results but if everyone prep their car well it shouldn't be bad. I'll see what I need to get for supplies.

Keep me updated. I've been thinking about a winter paint project on the hatch. I want to do it cheap, but still amaze you guys at how it comes out. (duh) Let me know how it goes.
Maybe you can ship the paint guns to me, and then I can ship them to another HMT member. Then when you finally get them back you can say that your paint gun painted X amount of HMT's cars. lol

The sarcasm is killing me! Just say no if you aren't interested. I myself would like to have a car that is one color! Kyle if thats not your thing, or HMT's thing, I know where you can get a VW Harlequin Golf really cheap!

I'm going to throw a WW kit on because there is a ---- load of body work I'd need to do to the bottom doors and lower rear quarters otherwise, it's just cheaper and easier at this point since I found a full RS kit for $600 shipped. Plus, I like the look and the nice area for a big FMIC. After I put that on, I could use a new paint job. Keep us informed on your progress.

oh oh...I want to paint my car. I live in Maine. It is a crx which I was thinking about painting a really high gloss black. Lemme know when and where and I will try to have my car prepped by then. I need to do some cuting and welding on the rear quarter panels ??? which I don't know how to do. But I'm seriously interested. I live in southern Maine, one hour north of Boston.

Hmm. if it was in good condition, I'd consider a used one but without seeing them in person, I'd rather get a new one so I don't have to deal with someone else's fuckups. If you find any used ones in really good condition, let me know.

I tried to paint my rex this summer and it came out like ----. I'm gonna give it another go next spring once im out of school. If you guys end up getting some good results, it would be sweet if I could get some help so it dosn't come out like ------- this time.

the ones that I have come across were in good shape. Polyurethane too, not a fiberglass knock off. I haven't come across any lately though

I just went to sears yesterday when I got my Jack and I was looking at Air compressors and HVLP guns. It seems the only compressor that is big enough to supply the necessary CFM to an HVLP gun is a 60 gallon dual stage 230V that has to be hard wired. What kind of compressor do you have to work with? Which gun did you get and what are the flow rate requirements for it?

Man I painted my car with ease with my 2.5hp 8 gallon

You know you only need like 40psi and your not constantly spraying, youll be stopping after areas and after coats

I never had to wait for the compressor once and had a constant 40 psi

I got the deal at canadian tire though, was $250 canadian for this compressor with 40ft hose, 1/2" air gun, 3/8" air ratchet , air hammer and some tire fill ups and ----. Great deal

But ya, you dont need a ------- monster to paint a car. Some people paint there cars @ 25 psi as well

HVLP High Volume LOW PRESSURE!! I have 2 compressors a 120 single stage and a 240 dual stage. My HVLP is cheap but I'm in it for the learning experiance.

When I painted my car, I used a cheepo Home Depot HVLP with a 5 HP, 6 gallon compressor. You really don't need all that much to run one of the cheeper ones.

Do you think that had anything to do with the compressor you used? Or was it more lack of experience?

I was thinking about getting this one to help with some bodywork and painting over the winter. Think it will be ok?

It was def. problems with my experience. My prep work wasn't perfect(a little wavy) and I got some wicked orange peel. It is not that bad, I would just like to give it another go now that I have all the equitment and would pretty much just have to pay for paint.
