nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
yes, this is from my homepage of yahoo. ::)
but this is pretty bad ass if you ask me. isnt this like Mach 10? http://news.yahoo.com/fc?tmpl=fc&cid..._and_Aerospace "An unmanned NASA jet screamed into the record books high over the Pacific Ocean by reaching speeds of almost 7,000 mph, brightening hopes that humans might one day be able to fly across a continent in minutes instead of hours. The 12-foot-long X-43A supersonic combustion ramjet -- or scramjet -- flew on its own power for just 10 seconds after separating from a booster rocket, but it was enough to excite researchers" http://us.news1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com...4242362226.jpg |
Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
That is amazing. I am more interested in the practical aplications of this. Like mentioned in your post, faster flights for travelers.
This will never happen without it being cost effective, which I doubt it is. |
Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
it wouldn't. the person would probably be killed.try to imagine that.
" yes sir, we are ready for take initiation. 3, 2, 1, go.... gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh splat. couple of seconds later something going really fast kits Cuba and Fidel Castro falls down again and breaks some more ----. |
Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
it's alot more cost effective than carrying liquid oxygen. It will also make space travel easier, even easier than the "White Knight" rocket that literally burns rubber--i'm serious.

Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
The news report I watched said this was the 1st step in getting to the practical applications of this technology.
They said they are hoping to develop jets that would allow you to fly from Los Angeles to NYC in under 30 minutes! :o |
Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
ironically the scramjet engine is the least complicated and the simpliest Jet engine design ever. Its pretty ingeneous how it works

Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
7000 MPH ? thats it. christ, ive pissed faster ;)
|
Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
So that's 0-7,000mph in less than 10 seconds. I can do that in a stock HF ;)
It is probably not going to be useful for our generation but maybe in a few years |

100 years ago, 150mph was fast as hell, bacially an unheard of speed. now they are shooting for 7000mph 8) its only a matter of time.... |
Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
after the flight, the vehicle splashed down in the ocean, never to be recovered.
talk about wasting a few billion dollars. ::) we should go look for it, salvage some parts and sell em on ebay. ;D |

Re:nasa's jet reaches 7,000 mph
yeah im a little dissapointed at the lack of hoverboards, back to the future 2 got my hopes up a little, i mean when i was 9 years old i got a hovercraft remote control car/boat i just knew that the hoverboard would be coming out really soon :(
