n00b project crx and toyota 22R
EDIT: Apparently photobucket doesn't support porn.... I should have read the terms of service (sarcasm, I knew it wouldn't last... I'll post em up again eventually)
no turbo yet |

Well, so far you're a huge failure.

Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
I didnt think they put disk brakes on the rear of crx's

Well you're an ever larger failure then.

Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
As for the truck it's an 86 22r 4X4 ( that's the carb motor) 545 000 km
I have an extra manifold and after seeing your little cover story last week I'm just gonna go for it and boost this thing and see what happens.... I have an extra motor in case but I think it'll work out..... This is the truck when I bought it... http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...truckStart.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ckStartTwo.jpg |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
I didn't know better then.... shouldn't have bought a turbo off of a 1.9l diesel escort from the uk http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ms/miniM27.jpg |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
First off why have you let this guy raped you for 2 years with this B16 ::)
and second toyota is BEAT, jon's (cover page) is actually pretty nice for the year. Good luck with the project |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
here's a pic of the truck after I spent a couple weeks welding in a new floor and some new pieces to fill in the holes....

Parts car http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...niPartsCar.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...e_turboKit.jpg The Truck when I bought it... Pretty beat up but next to free so why not http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...truckStart.jpg http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ckStartTwo.jpg This is the truck now with body work, paint, lots of welding... damn winters out here, all the salt just eats these trucks up!! http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...WorkedYota.jpg I rebuilt the motor last spring, ready for boost!!! |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
a t3 like i had will spool below 3 grand (around 2500 or so) on a 22r. a t25 in any trim would spool at like 1700rpm. although good for the motors powerband, bad for anything past 5k
edit: detail me on what your truck is. im assuming its the g52 or whatever the trans was. 5spd? or auto. the automatics toyota used are pretty beefy actually.. |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
I'm not sure what to believe anymore but he told me he'd get the engine for sure by the end of december, I don't really care anymore !! I think I'll just boost the D in the mean time... :S |

Rolling on some 31X10.5 tires wt factory rims So I guess I'll shop around for a good used CT-26 or a T3 then.... |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
Wow.. lot of work in that truck!
What manifold are you going to use on the 22R? If you're going *cheap* - OEM manifold, the CT26 can be made to fit with minor slotting of exhaust side holes. The CT26 will support over 200hp, which is about the limit of the cast pistons anyway... I'd strongly suggest EFI, if you're going to do it - especially with as much time as you've put into that truck.. You can do "fuel only" megasquirt very simply and basically it's just an add-on, keeping your stock ignition system. You'll have no timing control, unless you do some sort of MSD unit. Full megasuirt really isn't that hard to do, there are at least 4-5 trucks running it. If you're going to carb.. draw through. I did an EFI (TBI) draw through setup on a supercharger that actually worked very well: http://lakebox.dnsalias.com/photos/1...d/DSC04979.JPG |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
Nice setup on that SC dcg9381... What's the price difference on going the EFI route compared to megasquirt? I'll have to look into megasquirt cause I keep hearing about it, as for the mani I'll either be using the stock cast non-turbo manifold and welding a flange to it or maybe custom homemade flange, def not the factory turbo mani cause I can't find any around here although it'd make it a lot easier!
I keep hearing different stories on the outcome of blow thru carb setups. When I do the truck it'll be low boost just to get it moving off idle cause it's too damn slow... need more torque!!! I figured I'd be able to tune it with the carb blow thru set up if it's only low boost but I guess I'll have to do more homework... wish I had gotten a 22RE or 22RTE such better platforms to start with but this truck was so cheap !! |

More Pics of the project...
http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...iftanymore.jpg Now as I said before it had tons of rust... I took the taillight off and a chunk of bondo fell off http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...reRustBack.jpg And this is the floor in the truck, I know it was a waste of time but when you work out where I work you gotta keep busy and this was what I did.... It was good practice as far as learning to weld and bodywork/painting.... http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...tRustFloor.jpg And there was also a lot of rust around the windsheild the guy who owned it ( a true farmer) had siliconed all the way around the windsheild so tons of rust I could actually stick my hand in the A pillar! http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...ustAPillar.jpg So after some welding and such it turned out all right http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...illarFixed.jpg Then there was the blown head gasket last winter... http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...HeadGasket.jpg Took the time to clean it up and fix every other part underhood that could give me problems... all new hoses/vac lines/ fuel lines.... http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...hedRebuild.jpg And this is last summer in my homeMadePaint booth.... http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r...PaintBooth.jpg I know there aren't any actual turbo setup pics yet but I will follow thru with this so until then thanks for any input. |
Re: n00b project crx and toyota 22R (pics will be up on monday)
When are you gonna lift it? I wanna see some dual cases, and 37" boggers on that thing.

As for the truck it needs more power to turn some 37" tires cause it sure as hell couldn't do it very well stock! So I'll finish the HMT setups on these two this spring'ish and then I might have some money left over for the 4X4. |

ebay Rebuild "kits" are, as always, a scam, inviting people to believe they can rebuild a turbo themelves with just a hammer, a screw driver an no balancing!! Since they do not even include the proper sized bearings that are always needed to cure shaft play, you wake up short of a hundred bucks and with a bunch of extra parts that generally don't even need to be replaced, the wrong bearings and an no warranty but the one that this turbo will fail again in minutes. |
